The owners have created a wonderful refuge’ in this 1700 sq. foot cottage and invite you to take time out and experience the breathtaking beauty and exquisite charm of Carmel and the surrounding Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur Coast. The cottage itself is filled with a wonderful collection of books, video’s, DVD’s, Music and Art that range from the whimsical to the sacred…. inspirational to entertaining. It is this sense of place that calls forth the artist within and says come play,write,paint,create,rest,allow,be. The cottage lends itself to reflection and renewal and at the same time everything you could possibly need including a Picnic Basket, Beach Chairs even a beach grill (Carmel allows fires on the beach) is available for those who want to adventure out to the beaches, countryside and nearby redwood forests in Big Sur. There is information available along with suggestions for all the restaurants, services, shops, art galleries, and many activities and day trips for those who might need some help in deciding what to do or where to go. The owner used to own an Inn in Vermont and has taken special care to create many of the same amenities such as a bottle of wine from a local vineyard and horsdoeuvre’s upon arrival. The beds have Egyptian Cotton Sheets and Hypo-Allergenic Comforters and non-feather beds, oversized towels (on a towel warmer),thick terry bathrobes, magazines, daily newspaper delivered to your door and much more (see amenities). Upon entering Sanctuary with it’s colorful cascading flower boxes you will find a lovely space with vaulted ceilings, white cottage walls, oak floors, and plenty of windows that allow light and yet maintain privacy. On the first floor is the living room with a wood burning fireplace and gas backup, a dining area that seats 6- 8 and opens to the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with a professional Viking range, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, quality linens,iniqueserving pieces and platters for entertaining. There are numerous cookbooks to browse thru as the owner is a professional chef and written her own cookbook.There is a guest bedroom with a full size bed that invites you to come nestle under the cozy goose down Hypo - allergeniccomforter with a good novel and hot cup of tea while the rest of the country is baking in 100 degree weather. The library-Media room has two large picture windows overlooking the flower covered deck and fenced inback yard (pet and child friendly) that could serve as additional sleeping space (sleeps 1-2). There is a 27”color TV. with full cable,video/d.v.d. library, and numerous books. On the first floor there is also a full bathroom with bathtub/ shower combination and washer and dryer. On the upper level is the Master Bedroom that has a king sized Bed with 700 count White Siberian Goose Down comforter that help regulate the temperature so you are never to hot or cold. There are reading lamps, cable hookup and a wood burning fireplace. The vaulted ceilings and tall windows give a sense of spaciousness and the feeling of being in a tree house. One can catch beautiful sunsets looking toward the ocean and the crisp night air, warm cozy comforters and the sound of the ocean at night in the distance make for a wonderful nights sleep. The newly remodeled master bathroom is painted in cottage white, cream and sage accents. There are oak floors, a Vintage cast iron bathtub with double rolled edges that looks out a large picture window with distant views of the Ocean and privacy from the tall pines. There is a separate shower with hand crafted subway tiles, frameless glass enclosure, 2 pedestal sinks, ample storage and a water closet. There is a small sitting area with a corner desk that looks out a window onto the street below and more bookshelves and a large walk in closet. The Raggedy Ann Room is a small room that has multiple uses. It has an old fashioned white iron trundle bed that can sleep two singles or be used as a day couch. It could be used to sleep children or adults, office space, artist’s studio or anything else you might imagine. There is lots of storage space for artist supplies. Sanctuary is located in a quiet neighborhood with ocean views as you stroll only an 8 minute walk to Carmel’s picturesque village with boutique shops, antique stores, top quality restaurants, café’s with outdoor fireplaces, coffeehouses, quaint inn’s and B&B’s, and over 100 art galleries. The feeling is similar to being in Europe with many of the buildings restored to look like storybook cottages out of childhood fairytales. From the center of town it is a short walk down hill to the famous Carmel Beach with it’s pristine white sand beaches, views of the famous Pebble Beach golf course where the AT & T is held every February. Carmel is one of the most dog friendly places in the world with many restaurants and shops providing dog treats and water bowls. There is even a list of dog friendly restaurants and dog sitters. Carmel is an artist’s haven and has long been known for the many artists, writers, photographers, that have made Carmel their home or retreat. Because of Carmel’s charmand appeal many well known musicians and artists plan to do shows here so that they can also spend personal time in Carmel. There are many special events that take place such as the Bach festival in July, The Concourse de Elegance in August,Monterey Jazz Festival in September,Tomato Fest live performances at the newly renovated Sunset Theatre and outdoor shows at the Forest Theatre. Point Lobos is only 7 minutes away and is one of the most beautiful natural parks in the country with miles of trails and Ocean Vistas. Once you have explored Carmel there is Carmel Valley about a 15 minute drive that is home to many wineries and a place where locals go to bathe in the sun when the summer fog rolls in. There is new and old Monterey famous for Cannery Row, fisherman’s wharf, The Fish Aquarium. Pacific Grove is home to the Monarch Butterfly and Festival of the Lantern and has many quaint shops and great restaraunts. There is the famous 17-mile drive and the incredible Big Sur Scenic Highway and “Red Wood Forests.The Monterey Peninsula is also a golfer’s paradise having the largest concentration of golf courses in the country.
