Vacation Rental Description

Tranquil and elegant, this two bedroom newly renovated apartment is located in the 
historic center of downtown Guanajuato, two blocks from the lively Jardin de 
Union and Teatro Juarez, yet tucked away up a safe pedestrian-only street.

The central location allows the visitor to have the quintessential Guanajuato experience: 
strolling around and taking in all of the spontaneous happenings downtown.  Experience 
the raucous mariachis, solemn religious processions, bizarre costumed parades, old-
worldly Tuesday night open-air danzon, frequent craft fairs, mimes and clowns, and 
plentiful outdoor cafes and restaurants.

The apartment consists of one large bedroom with double bed, one small bedroom with 
single bed, kitchen/living/dining room, bathroom, foyer with stone "caracol" (spiral 
staircase) that leads to a rooftop terrace.  The kitchen is equipped with all new appliances: 
four-burner stove/oven, full-size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster oven, coffee 
maker, pots and pans, glassware, dishware, etc.  The bathroom has all new plumbing. The 
rooftop terrace has a spectacular view of the church cupulas.

When renovating, we managed to preserve the historic Spanish colonial beauty of this 
building.  Enjoy the natural insulation of 30 cm thick adobe walls (cool in the summer, 
warm in the winter), wood-beamed high ceilings, built-in wooden cabinetry complete with 
antique glass, and hand-carved stone details.  We added festive Mexican tiles, traditional 
fired-clay floors, goose down comforters and brand new goose feather pillows.

Activities and Attractions

See and hear classical, jazz, flamenco, or folkloric dance ensembles (to name just a few) at 
the spectacular Teatro Juarez just two blocks away.  Study Spanish at one of the many 
language schools downtown (Escuela Mexicana and Espanol Universal are both one block 
away).  Check out the local Guanajuato Symphony, visit the many museums including the 
original home of muralist Diego Rivera, take a workshop in stained-glass making, jewelry-
making, or even violin-making at the Gene Byron Museum.  Take classes in Mexican 
cuisine, salsa or folkloric dancing.  Explore the plentiful artesania shops full of 
handpainted ceramic, silver jewelry, and colorful woven textiles all typical from this 
region.

US $100 security deposit required
Monthly discounts possible

Reserve el Caracol by personal check or PayPal. Half the rent plus security deposit due to 
reserve the apartment, the remainder due in cash upon arrival. When you leave, the 
security deposit will be refunded after inspection of the apartment.  Full refund minus 
$100 if cancellation is made more than one month in advance.
