Charming cottage in the heart of the Fingerlakes!

Bryna (Pasadena, Maryland)
Review submitted: October 24, 2012   Date of arrival: October 18, 2012

What a wonderfully cozy and charming lake cottage right on the west side of Cayuga Lake, centrally located for easy access to both wine trails! The views are astounding, as you have a wall of windows facing the east- makes for wonderful sunrises and great sun worship early in the day- I can only imagine how wonderful it is in the summer! The deck runs the length of the house- right up to the beach with its crystal clear waters. There's a table and chairs, grill, and deck loungers for enjoying the outdoors, even a cute pebbled side yard with a firepit to enjoy when weather cooperates(and the tree isn't dropping black walnuts).
We loved falling asleep to the sound of lapping water on the shore bank, and really enjoyed the cast iron stove- heats the whole place in a matter of minutes! The tankless water heated shower was a nice surprise, as we were expecting lukewarm showers due to the lake filtered water supply.
The kitchen is adequately stocked with all the necessities for cooking basic meals, and the TV does have basic cable access with local network stations (although we only had it turned on a minute or two- who needs TV in a place like this?) The beds were comfy and there were plenty of spare blankets and pillows. The only downside, if you can even call it that, is the fact that the house is set really close to the road on the west side, so crossing to get to your car (the driveway is across the street) can be a bit daunting as cars do like to come by at pretty high speeds. It's not bad when in the house since the cottage itself is set down a steep embankment- you don't feel like you're too close to the road unless standing at the kitchen sink.
Jill was friendly and courteous, prompt to answer any questions before our trip.
We found the cottage clean and welcoming- so there was no need to contact her further during our stay, but if we had, I'm sure she would have been quick to get back to us. The cottage has been renovated, but it does have it's endearing little quirks- the lights dim when the water pump is running, the french doors take a little loving care to close tightly- but we found it part of the charm. Our dogs were very happy here, too- it's nice to rent from people who understand the importance of furbabies.
Our happiest moments outside of the cottage? Watkins Glen State Park (30 miles south), Hearts and Hands Wine Company (right across the Lake), and Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine (~10 miles south). We'll definitely be back!

Exceedingly Comfortable and Charming Place!

Athena Kostyuk (Houston, TX)
Review submitted: October 15, 2012   Date of arrival: October 11, 2012

We had a family 4-day getaway in mid Oct at this place. It is exceedingly clean, comfortable, and charming! Upon our arrival, all of us immediately felt at home; so did our guests, who kept raving about the loveliness of the place. Everything is just right: not too much but sufficient and convenient. The living room and the kitchen have a broad view of the lake, so does both bedrooms. We enjoyed several sunrise and changing color on the lake. I also must say that the owners do a great job in every detail to make the guests feel at home. Although it is mid Oct, the entire space is well heated and very warm.
