vacation rental description

Coquina (pronounced kokeena) is a colorful bivalve
that occurs in huge numbers on the beach. When opened, Coquinas look
like  small butterflies. Coquinas make a delicious, healthy broth for
drinking or for use as stock in gumbos and chowders.
Coquina in Hibiscus Bay aims to be just such a delicate and precious
morsel of utter joy. The house is situated on the spine of the
St.Joseph Peninsula on Cape San Blas with a clear view to the Gulf of
Mexico and St. Joseph Bay. The wraparound porch makes it possible to
see both sunrise and sunset without ever leaving your porch. The
master bedroom directly overlooks two stocked Fishing Ponds with a
view to the Bay beyond. After you marvel at the sunset on the living
room side of the house, the full moon reflected in the pond and bay on
the bedroom side of the house is truly magic. The house is newly
remodeled, with tile floors throughout. Each bedroom has a queen-size
bed and the living room sofa can also be converted into a queen size
bed. In the living room facing the Beach there is a roomy window bench
that facilitates lounging, relaxing and reading. You can park your cars or boat right under the house.
To get to the Beach or Bay in Hibiscus Subdivision is easy. Parking is
available right next to the Boardwalks leading to the waters edge at
both Gulf and Bay. If you prefer to walk, the distance is about 800
feet either way. Hibiscus also has a Swimming Pool and a Commons Area.
A few hundred feet from Coquina a Gazebo overlooks the Gulf, with a
Dune Walkover to the Beach. On the Bay side you look out at the two
stocked fishing ponds and a Boardwalk is leading to the 500-ft
Pier ideal for fishing and boating. On your way to the pier you can
stop by the screened Gazebo have lunch or rest and admire the blue
Heron often seen sitting on the pier.

activities and attractions in Cape San Blas Gulf Coast North

Coquina at Hibiscus Bay is located at 6542 Cape San Blas Road on the
St. Joseph Peninsula directly bordering the Rish State Park. St.
Joseph Peninsula was rated the #1 Beach in the US in 2002. One mile
north is another large State Park, the 2,000-acre St. Joseph State
Park. The Park has hiking and bike trails and a marina for launching
boats. There are many things you can do in this area. Charter boats
taking you deep sea fishing, guided eco-sightseeing, instructions in
kayaking and canoeing can keep you so busy that swimming, sandcastle
building and walking along the beach with a net to catch blue crabs
might have to be planned in for more relaxing moments. If you have a
dog, he/she will adore the beach. My little Sam loves to chase sand
crabs on the beach. A sunset cruise is also a wonderful way to relax.
You can catch fish at the lighthouse or go snorkeling or crabbing. My
own personal favorite is collecting scallops in the Bay during
scalloping season in July and August! There is horseback riding
available on the beach and a 4-mile long bicycle path (soon to be
extended to 7 miles) along the Cape Road. After all these wonderful
outdoor activities it is time to think about dinner. The area has
numerous fine restaurants ranging from Toucans in Mexico Beach
(Shrimps all you can eat every Thursday), to Sunset Grill, Peppers,
and Dockside Caf in Port St. Joe. On the way to Apalachicola there is
the incomparable Indian Pass Raw Bar. In Apalachicola the Gibson Inn
is a standout, with Papa Joes and Bosses for seafood lovers, and
Tamaras with Tapas Wednesday night as special treats.

Great

Joshua (Atlanta)
Review submitted: January 15, 2013   Date of arrival: December 31, 2012

We spent New Years at Coquina and had a great time. There were 2 couples, a six year old, and our 3 month old. The bedrooms were very quiet and the living area was plenty spacious for all of us. The bay is a very short walk but the walk to the beach is a bit longer. There are a couple of fishing ponds directly behind the house that offer some great bass fishing. There is a deck that surrounds the home and is enclosed that makes it perfect for dogs. We brought out dog and he spent most of the time hanging out on the deck. The house sits pretty close to the main road but we didn't find it to be a problem. Maria was very hospitable. Overall, you won't find a better place on the cape for the price. We will definitely be heading back to Coquina.

Great Fall Visit!

Freebirds (Americus, GA)
Review submitted: November 6, 2012   Date of arrival: October 27, 2012

We had a great fall visit to Cape San Blas the week of Oct 7 to Nov 3rd. The Hofer's were very hospitable and we were able to meet them while we were there. The rental home, Coquina, was in very good shape and we enjoyed the visit as well as our two small pups. The fishing in the freshwater pond behind the house was good; we caught many large bluegill and bream on a couple of outings. We tried our luck also from the pier, but the tides were not in our favor for prime fishing although I did spy quite a number of redfish from the end of the pier. I am sure we will try and stay here on our next visit to the Cape!

Amazing

R Gunn (Beavercreek, Ohio)
Review submitted: September 23, 2012   Date of arrival: September 8, 2012

This was our second stay at Coquina. We have been coming to Cape San Blas since we were introduced to it in the early 90's by my sister who was stationed @ Eglin. We have stayed at many places from camping at St. Joseph Park to beach and bay front houses but rarely have we rented the same place more than once. Coquina is the perfect blend of old and new Cape San Blas. Watching the sun rise over the bay and set over the gulf every day. The scenery from every angle is beautiful. There were hundreds of butterflies sipping nectar among the flowers every day. We caught bass and blue gill in the ponds, flounder and trout in the bay. The pool is fabulous and very private. The bay and the ocean, both close by, hold endless hours of exploration and discovery. This year we were a bit too late too see the fluorescence in the water which is something that everyone should experience. But even if we didn't see it, I'm sure the magic was still there. Great vacation destination.
