vacation rental description

Coquina (pronounced kokeena) is a colorful bivalve
that occurs in huge numbers on the beach. When opened, Coquinas look
like  small butterflies. Coquinas make a delicious, healthy broth for
drinking or for use as stock in gumbos and chowders.
Coquina in Hibiscus Bay aims to be just such a delicate and precious
morsel of utter joy. The house is situated on the spine of the
St.Joseph Peninsula on Cape San Blas with a clear view to the Gulf of
Mexico and St. Joseph Bay. The wraparound porch makes it possible to
see both sunrise and sunset without ever leaving your porch. The
master bedroom directly overlooks two stocked Fishing Ponds with a
view to the Bay beyond. After you marvel at the sunset on the living
room side of the house, the full moon reflected in the pond and bay on
the bedroom side of the house is truly magic. The house is newly
remodeled, with tile floors throughout. Each bedroom has a queen-size
bed and the living room sofa can also be converted into a queen size
bed. In the living room facing the Beach there is a roomy window bench
that facilitates lounging, relaxing and reading. You can park your cars or boat right under the house.
To get to the Beach or Bay in Hibiscus Subdivision is easy. Parking is
available right next to the Boardwalks leading to the waters edge at
both Gulf and Bay. If you prefer to walk, the distance is about 800
feet either way. Hibiscus also has a Swimming Pool and a Commons Area.
A few hundred feet from Coquina a Gazebo overlooks the Gulf, with a
Dune Walkover to the Beach. On the Bay side you look out at the two
stocked fishing ponds and a Boardwalk is leading to the 500-ft
Pier ideal for fishing and boating. On your way to the pier you can
stop by the screened Gazebo have lunch or rest and admire the blue
Heron often seen sitting on the pier.

activities and attractions in Cape San Blas Gulf Coast North

Coquina at Hibiscus Bay is located at 6542 Cape San Blas Road on the
St. Joseph Peninsula directly bordering the Rish State Park. St.
Joseph Peninsula was rated the #1 Beach in the US in 2002. One mile
north is another large State Park, the 2,000-acre St. Joseph State
Park. The Park has hiking and bike trails and a marina for launching
boats. There are many things you can do in this area. Charter boats
taking you deep sea fishing, guided eco-sightseeing, instructions in
kayaking and canoeing can keep you so busy that swimming, sandcastle
building and walking along the beach with a net to catch blue crabs
might have to be planned in for more relaxing moments. If you have a
dog, he/she will adore the beach. My little Sam loves to chase sand
crabs on the beach. A sunset cruise is also a wonderful way to relax.
You can catch fish at the lighthouse or go snorkeling or crabbing. My
own personal favorite is collecting scallops in the Bay during
scalloping season in July and August! There is horseback riding
available on the beach and a 4-mile long bicycle path (soon to be
extended to 7 miles) along the Cape Road. After all these wonderful
outdoor activities it is time to think about dinner. The area has
numerous fine restaurants ranging from Toucans in Mexico Beach
(Shrimps all you can eat every Thursday), to Sunset Grill, Peppers,
and Dockside Caf in Port St. Joe. On the way to Apalachicola there is
the incomparable Indian Pass Raw Bar. In Apalachicola the Gibson Inn
is a standout, with Papa Joes and Bosses for seafood lovers, and
Tamaras with Tapas Wednesday night as special treats.

Awesome property if you just want to relax!

Review submitted: December 30, 2013   Date of arrival: December 22, 2013

We absolutely loved our stay at this property. The location is great and it was much bigger inside than we expected. We loved having two bathrooms and the wraparound deck is excellent. The house is very well equipped, you really only need to bring linens and food. It's very private. When we were there none of the neighbours were there so we had complete privacy even though the main road runs out front. The washer and dryer downstairs were very handy.

The views are amazing, and you can see the gulf out front and you can just make out the bay out back. The back deck overlooks one of two bass ponds that are full of bass and sunfish. I ended up catching over 20 bass the week I was there without really spending much time at it. The water is very clear and clean. I also fished quite a bit off the dock in the bay, but it was a little too shallow do have much action. There are tons of birds around the cottage and a deer showed up one day to drink from the pond behind the house.

The beach is just a few minutes walk and the sand is snow white and firm to walk on. We had a bonfire on the beach and roasted up some hot dogs. Lots of birds on the beach including some fairly rare snowy plovers.

The place is very quiet around Christmas so we slept like babies. There are two convenience stores just a couple of minutes away by car or bike and they sell groceries, pizza, hot dogs, beach wear, alcohol, gas, a little bit of everything.

There is a bike path the length of the cape that is paved and separate from the road so it's great for getting some exercise.

The owners are super friendly and great to deal with. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Amazing family rental!

Review submitted: November 14, 2013   Date of arrival: May 1, 2013

We spent 3 weeks there in May during paternity and maternity leave with two parents, a 3 year old, and a newborn.
It's a great location on the Cape, with equal distance to the bay and beach. We actually found that this was better than being on the beach. We spent more time at the bay walking in the clear, knee high water with our three year old, looking at crab, fish, and ray. The beach was wonderful, although a little windy the days we were there. It is a 5 minute walk to the Bay on a small subdivision street and a boardwalk. It is a 2 minute drive to the beach (you could also walk, but we found it easier to throw the kids in the front seat and drive across the street).
There is also a pond behind the house. I don't fish, and I caught a BIG fish the first time I went out there. I attribute it to beginner's luck and the fact that the pond is very well stocked.
It's not a modern, swanky condo, but it it was perfect, comfortable, and affordable for us.
Maria and Kurt were also very generous and hospitable and spent many a summer in this house. They have an emotional connection to the house. They want to make sure people have as good as en experience as they do.
The Cape is also amazing. I'll let the other reviews speak for this.
