vacation rental description

Step back to an earlier time when visiting this quaint city with its historic downtown on the waterfront of Passamaquoddy Bay. Eastport is known as the "easternmost city in the United States" where the sun rises first.

Eastport is home to "Eastport for Pride", a 'main street' organization whose mission is to "strengthen, preserve, and enhance the commercial historic district in Eastport, while maintaining our small town quality of life." Our "Moose Island Cottage" on Woodman Place is an original Eastport farmhouse boasting a side lot which is very rare in town with a spacious yard, outside storage unit, and a view of the Bay. There is a small deck outside and lots of grassy areas to play.

The house is fully furnished and offers a comfortable living room with cable TV, separate dining room with seating for 6, full kitchen with fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave and Keurig coffee maker. There is a half bath, laundry area on the first floor with a back entrance. The upstairs has three furnished bedrooms, two with white iron twin beds graced with colorful quilts, the master has a queen bed, vanity, chest and closet. A large full bath with tub/shower and ample counter space is ready for use by guests.   Our house comfortably sleeps 5 people.

Unfortunately, we cannot allow pets, however, we love our people guests.  We ask that you share your stay by writing your daily activities in our journal along with pictures you may want to share.

house rental amenities

With our fully stocked kitchen, you can eat in - groceries available at local stores - or eat out at one of Eastport's fine restaurants. Choose from The Chowder House within walking distance with 5 kinds of delicious chowder among other favorites where you can eat inside or out while watching for whales or dolphins. Catch the local ferry to Deer Island or Campobello Island the summer retreat of President Roosevelt.  The WaCo serves plenty with an outside deck and a breakfast unparalled in town. The Happy Crab is just up the street and the Blue Iris is across the street.   The Pickled Herring is a new restaurant with fine dining and a fully stocked bar for those who love specialty drinks.

Shop in the historic downtown for specialties only found in Eastport. Art, flowers, quilts, clothing, unusual gifts and a tea house are a must. Eastport offers amenities usually found in larger cities, but is small and most everything you need is within walking distance.

Catch a ferry to Deer Island or to Campobello - the summer resort of the Roosevelts.  Tour their home on a partially guided tour and browse adjacent cottages with historic photos while reminiscing United States history.  Walk through the manicured gardens or down to the water for more historic markers and information.

activities and attractions in Eastport Maine

Eastport boasts the "largest July 4th celebration in the state of Maine" and each year attracts hundreds of visitors for the week of festivities for children and adults alike. The 4th of July parade is fun for all ages.

Whether a history buff or a seafarer, there are plenty of activities for you and your family. For history, check out the Barracks Museum, a worthwhile study of early 1800's architecture and construction, or the Quoddy Maritime Museum. For more history, take the ferry to Campobello Island and the short trip to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park where you can tour the Roosevelt Cottage, stroll through the meticulously kept gardens, tour the walking trails or the Mulholland Point Lightouse. Deer Island is also a ferry ride away and promises many specialities for the entire family. Climb aboard for one of Harris' Whale Watching or Salt Water Fishing trips booked daily. Visit local galleries and don't miss Raye's Mustard Mill, the only mill remaining in the world that uses the 500 year old stone grinding process to create mustard.

Visit nearby Canada through neighboring Calais or Lubec. From Calais you enter St Stephens, the town known for its chocolate. Further up the road is quaint St. Andrews with quaint shops, places to dine and water to view at every turn.  Abundant in lilacs, in early Spring, this is the place to be. Visit the Cottage Garden while in Lubec and other nearby treats.
