vacation rental description

Hale Pomaika'i is a super-clean & comfortable 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom house
which backs up to a forest reserve of native ohia trees and wonderful bird song. On a clear day there is a fantastic view of Mauna Kea, Hawaii's largest volcano.

This is a cozy, relaxing and comfortable house.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy a meal at home, or you can have a barbecue outside on the lanai.

The Orchid Room has a Queen-size bed with Hawaiian print comforter, ceiling fan, hardwood dresser, and full-sized closet. Bathroom is equipped with rainhead shower.

The living room has TV, DVD player, stereo/CD player, books and games for your enjoyment. The convertible futon couch has an innerspring mattress for your sitting or sleeping comfort.

At Hale Pomaika'i, we don't just give lip service to sustainability. To do our part in being eco-friendly, there is solar hot water, as well as a solar electric grid-tie system. We are delighted to share with our guests whatever is in season from the edible landscaping, which includes lychee, guava, avocado, pink lemon, calamanci, valencia orange, banana, pineapple, sweet potato, and much more! There are several varieties of palms, native ferns, and lovely tropical flowers scattered throughout the grassy fenced-in property. We've landscaped around the beautiful ohia to preserve these native trees, and to create secluded areas for your enjoyment.

On the lot next door, we have a small organic farm, where we utilize Korean Natural Farming methods. Our friendly flocks of chickens love to share their healthy farm-fresh eggs, too! Let us know if you'd like a farm tour while you're staying with us.

Owner's studio is right next door, but with a completely separate entrance to ensure our guests' privacy.

Come enjoy Hale Pomaika'i, your home of good fortune away from home.

Home away from home...

Review submitted: June 11, 2010   Date of arrival: May 18, 2010

A secluded home away from home. Clean, well-maintained, and very well set up, providing everything we needed for our stay (owners even provided earplugs just in case we found the coqui frogs too loud at night -- in fact we loved the sound). Lasting impression of a peaceful, refreshing place. Hospitable owners, and well-located for exploring the Puna side of the island. Lives up to its name. Excellent value!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sight seeing

A Lovely and Relaxing Place

Review submitted: May 5, 2010   Date of arrival: April 10, 2010

Thank you very much!! We've had a wonderful stay at Hale Pomaika'i. It's a lovely and relaxing place. All of the information you collected about things to see and do was very helpful. We found everything we needed and appreciated the thoughtful extra touches like the Hawaiian music and the books. I love the way the place is decorated and all the colors. Thanks!

A Wonderfully Restful Place

Review submitted: May 5, 2010   Date of arrival: March 29, 2010

Our almost-6-year-old daughter will probably best remember feeding the chickens and collecting eggs, looking for geckos, pineapple plants & avocados, and waking to torrential downpours.

What a wonderfully restful place to stay - much preferred over big resorts. A "home away from home" with everything thought of for comfort - down to children's' books and toys!
