traveler reviews for this grand canyon house rental

Disappointing

Terry&Glenn (las vegas nevada)
Review submitted: January 4, 2011   Date of arrival: December 2, 2010

This was a family Christmas vacation. The house is old but could be very nice. We saw the negative review but decided to rent this house after talking to the agent who told me it was a beautiful place. Looks like they have been doing work on the house. On arrival many lights and fans did not work which was very inconvenient since it was dark and unsafe unloading the cars. We had to use a flash light to find a light that worked inside. TV's didn't work, one of the toilets didn't work, no extra toilet paper or trash bags, sink would back up in kitchen, fronts of drawers off in the kitchen and utility room with nails exposed. Chairs piled in utility room, stairs out back door extremely unsafe to use. Called the next morning and was told this is the first they heard of any problems. Sent repairman over and fixed many of the problems. Outside around the house there are a lot of broken things lying around. I told them we felt we should get some kind of refund, I was told they would get back to me. After no response I sent them an email after returning home. Several days later I received a very insulting response that the house was perfectly fine before we got there and what a GREAT deal we got and they wouldn't refund anything. We left a charger at the house and my daughter has tried several times to communicate with them either no answer or they say they will get back to her. She called again and was told it wasn't there we know it was left in the kitchen. For the expense this house and the agency were very disappointing. Definitely would not recommend!

Owners response: The guests called the day after checkin and mentioned a tv not working, not enough light on the porch, the 1/2 bath toilet "flusher" was on the floor of the bathroom and one kitchen drawer cover was off. Guests also mentioned that there was not enough toilet paper in the house but then later found that a member of the group and taken some of the toilet paper and stashed it in their vehicle (the finding of the toilet paper was mentioned on the 2nd call to us).

There was never any mention about a sink backing up or else we would have sent someone in to take care of it.

We had two members of our cleaning crew and a maintenance (3 witnesses) that were at the house before this group checked in and everything was in order including the tv that was playing all channels.

The tv that was "not working" was asking for a password for TV14 and above shows/movies. After many calls to directv it was discovered that it was the tv itself that was asking for the password, not the dish box. As mentioned above everything was set before this groups checkin. It sounded as though a small child may have found the remote and started pushing buttons.

The drawer cover that was off was intact and in place before the group checked in, toilet handle was on the toilet tank and solar lights are installed on the front porch that not only light up the entire deck but the driveway as well. The "lights" that were out in the house . . . we were told of only one light that was out when the group checked in. At the time the group stayed it was winter therefore fans are usually not used. All fans/lights are connected to switches on the wall that turned them on/off and all worked fine before the checkin.

This "review" is the first we've heard about the back stairs. We found only one porch light out on the back stairs. When guests called they did not specify which porch did not have lights. As mentioned above, front porch had solar lights that light up porch and driveway. This is the first complaint that we have received about not enough outside light.

The reason a refund was not issued was due to the fact that everything in the house was running/working fine before the group checked in. We have three witnesses that all agree.

The camera cord that was left behind was not found. The guests said that the cord was left in the kitchen which was the first place that was looked over and nothing was found. After looking through the rest of the house still nothing was found.

We enjoyed the movies and toys, an extra touch that was not exected! The soft beds and the setup was very good for us as well, the maser being away from the other rooms. We do appreciate the accomadations far better than hotel/motel/other.
