Villa Eggedal Estate in Lake Atitlan

The Villa Eggedal Estate is located near the shore in the village Santa
Cruz la Laguna on famous Lake Atitlan -- which many think the most
beautiful lake in the world. Spectacular is the only word to describe
this ten acre walled estate with a pair of tastefully-decorated guest
studio apartments and a spacious four bedroom art-filled home for
rent. You are assured of privacy, luxury, spacious comfort, incredible
views of the lake, mountains and volcanoes, and the kind of
well-tended homes, gardens, and grounds that come with ten full-time
staff.
Owned by a European aristocrat who visits two or three months a year
(half of the estate is reserved, including his private home), the
three rentals accommodate up to a total 12 people comfortably and
privately -- small verandas, garden seats, overlooks, patios,
balconies, and shady lawn areas are nestled throughout the estate.
The estate is located 150 meters from the lake shore, which offers a
sandy beach for swimming. A winding, uphill walkway leads to the
estate and then through the grounds to the two studios and the house.
(This property is definitely not suitable to handicapped renters or
people with difficulty walking.)
Studio Apartment No. 2 looks out over the gardens at Lake Atitlan and
the volcanoes behind it. The one-room apartment is 62 square meters
(665 sq ft) and comes with a fully-equipped kitchen that leads to a
very large glass-windowed veranda with dining area, sitting and
reading area, and plants. A gracious living room looks out through the
veranda onto the lake and includes a fireplace, seating for six,
tables, lamps and art, as well as two large, single beds with bedside
table. A luxurious full bath with shower is off the entry hall.
Studio apartment No 1 is identical to Studio Apartment No. 2, except
that it lies directly beneath the other apartment and thus has a more
constrained view of the lake but more direct access to the grounds and
gardens plus this apartment includes a terrace off the side of the
apartment as well as the glass-enclosed porch in front.
The rental house Villa Hagan stands a bit away and uphill from the
studios, affording it a slightly broader view of Lake Atitlan and
beyond. The stucco and wood home is wonderfully comfortable, with
tasteful antique furniture, indigenous weavings, Persian carpets, and
fascinating art. A large portico with comfortable seating fronts the
house and provides a 220 degree view; looking out on the portico
through floor-to-ceiling windows is a large living room which also has
a great lake view and comfortable seating on upholstered couches and
chairs. Sculpture, carvings, tables, wall art and tasteful lighting
make this a room to enjoy day or night.
The fully-equipped kitchen is connected through a hallway (and a
pass-through window) to the living room and to the four bedrooms. The
kitchen is spacious and includes a full-size refrigerator and stove,
all the appliances, workspace and cookware to accommodate a serious
chef, as well as an antique dining table for eight.
Off the hall are the four bedrooms; two bedrooms have a double bed and
two bedrooms have two single beds in each. One of a pair of full
bathrooms is located off this hallway; the other is off the hallway
leading from the living room to the laundry area. Outside the house
are found several sitting and veranda areas, perfect for an late
afternoon cigar and cocktail or a glass of wine.

Is the most secluded of the Eggedal rentals.  This two-bedroom home offers the best views on the estate and it’s simple luxury and idyllic garden surrounding make it the perfect retreat.  Living room, dining area and kitchen are all combined in a spacious common room leading out onto a 20000000 square meter terrace with one of the most stunning vistas on the lake. The fully equipped kitchen and ample dining space make this an ideal setting for a family or group getaway, and art-filled walls and tasteful decoration abound. This well-appointed house offers space for five in total: one comfortable bedroom with a double bed and the other with a bunk bed and one single. The ample stone-walled bathroom is located just off the common room. An outdoor  terrace and barbecue area flank the entrance to the house and provide yet another opportunity to enjoy the surrounding garden and majestic views.

Villa Eggedal is one of the largest estates around Lake Atitlan. In
its collection of tropical gardens you will find all sorts of plants,
cactuses, flowers and trees for guests to enjoy. Papaya, avocados,
citrus fruits and bananas are there for the picking in season --
everything organic grown.
Each of the three rentals includes its own veranda and living room as
well as spectacular views of the estate's gardens, Lake Atitlan, and
the mountains and volcanoes beyond. With ten acres, spacious solitude
awaits the visitor, who will see lots of clouds, lake vistas,
birdlife, plants, and perhaps the occasional smaller animal but few
other people.
The staff clean twice a week and at departure -- part of the rental
price. The rentals also include sheets, towels, toilet paper, drinking
water, coffee, tea, and sugar at arrival. You will need to provision
for yourself or, if you prefer, services like grocery shopping,
laundry service and additional house-cleaning can arranged with staff
for an extra charge.

The Villa Eggedal Estate is located close by the lake shore in the
village Santa Cruz la Laguna at famous Lake Atitlan. The lake itself sits high in
a basin of volcanoes, a breathtaking, cool and sunny expanse of water
surrounded by dramatic cliffs and peaks. Villa Eggedal, on the
roadless north shore, has a parrot's eye view of a scene that hasn't
changed much since the Mayans stacked the first two blocks together at
Tikal.
Indeed, your 10-minute boat ride from the tourist centre of Panajachel
will be in the company of local women dressed in village patterns
dating back centuries. They're likely to be hauling a bag of avocados
or papaya for sale in the market. You're likely to haul a few of them
back for some fresh guacamole or some fruit salsa for your grilled
fish. That's commerce, Atitlan style.
