vacation rental description

At Casa Kalani, we understand the meaning of vacation. Our lives are
stressful enough and planning a vacation can be fun, but tedious. We
offer our guests complete trip-planning, from your arrival in San Jose
to departure and everything in between- all you need to do is show up!
Casa Kalani truly is a retreat, perfect for a romantic getaway, a
family reunion, or a trip with friends.

Nestled in the heart of Manuel Antonio, on the Pacific coast of Costa
Rica, Casa Kalani is a newly built vacation home. Kalani is Hawaiian for
"from the heavens" and while sitting on the master balcony, enjoying
the rainforest and wildlife, one feels that much closer to heaven. Spend the
day lounging by the pool, or sitting on the patio and watching the
wildlife go by, or it is just a short trip down to the beaches and
Manuel Antonio National Park. Come home, fire up the BBQ and grill
your fresh catch of the day! Within walking distance of Casa Kalani
are restaurants, bars, supermarket, butcher, internet cafe, pharmacy,
doctor's office and public transportation. It is at the end of a cul
de sac in a local neighborhood. Casa Kalani is halfway between the town of Quepos and the beaches and National Park Manuel Antonio.

The villa's main floor is open concept, and windows abound to allow
tons of natural sunlight. The decor is crisp and clean and although
the home is very spacious, we have managed to create a cozy and
intimate ambience. Beautiful artworks from Quepos and Manuel Antonio are featured throughout the home.

For the wildlife enthusiasts, all 3 monkey varieties (howler,
white-face and squirrel) pass by daily. If you're lucky, the squirrel
monkeys (titi) even stop by the master balcony. Birders be sure to
bring a pair of binoculars as mot-mot, tanagers, flycatchers, and
sometimes even toucans can be seen!

traveler reviews for this manuel antonio/quepos house rental

Comfortable, lovely, safe, convenient, visits by animals of all kinds, walkable to store, restaurant

hezaa (San Francisco)
Review submitted: April 12, 2011   Date of arrival: April 2, 2011

I will quickly say that we loved our stay at Casa Kalani! (April 2011). Location: ideal once we oriented ourselves: Quick walk to stores, restaurants and a short drive to the beach, Manuel Antonio Nat'l Park, Quepos...

Photos were spot-on: the house is lovely: clean, new appliances, great pool...

The owners, house manager, and concierge were outstanding! I feel like we received excellent treatment for our $$. Miquela and Nicole were available in advance for email questions and trip planning, and available once we arrived. Nicole planned amazing tours for us, and we were so grateful!

I would recommend this property to anyone!

Addressing some of the other comments posted online, and some comments I would have in addition to the above:

The driveway: The driveway is steep but not at all impossible. It's the jungle, not a frozen tundra. I have photos if anyone wants to see.

The pool: It is well maintained and has a lovely shower next to it. We never figured out the waterfall. We didn't try very hard either though. :-)

Outdoor patio: Wow, such a great place to watch the animals: capuchin monkeys, pygmy owl (up by the master bedroom), frogs, lizards, iguanas, crazy amounts of birds, parrots, insects, etc... We ate all of our meals here.

We did expect a working grill, and the grill there was not working.

Chickens: This house is in a neighborhood, not a sterile resort community. Many of the neighbors are Ticos who have chickens and doggies. Embrace it and enjoy it. It's not like the jungle is quiet anyway. It is an orchestra of critters, and it is amazing!

Bugs, ants, etc...: Again, you are in the jungle. YOU are the visitor. Embrace and enjoy how different the bugs are from home. Most of them are not going to harm you.

Kitchen: all new appliances; worked great. We wished the knives were sharper. :-)

Spices: again, this is the jungle so one cannot leave spices sitting in a cabinet or they absorb moisture from the air. We did miss having spices to cook with though. Our suggestion: perhaps the house manager can have a bin ready for when new guests arrive containing spices to borrow, binoculars (even if an extra deposit is required), extra sunscreen, aloe, beach towels to use...

Internet access: not provided. Frustrating. there is a router. There is a modem. Turning on the modem shows there *is* wireless in the house. Don't know why we were not allowed to use it. Would have paid an additional amount for this too.

Laundry: bug plus!

The perfect "home away from home"

JMeg (San Jose, Costa Rica & New York)
Review submitted: October 4, 2010   Date of arrival: August 20, 2010

My family stayed here, and we all absolutely loved it! Your home is so beautiful, and we were very comfortable. We saw monkeys every day, as well as other wildlife like toucans and iguanas. My parents especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the mornings, drinking coffee, and just enjoying "paradise." Thanks so much for accommodating our schedule...Mikayla was great too! If we make it back to Manuel Antonio again, we would love to stay here again!

Private Wildlife Viewing

Judy (Houston)
Review submitted: September 29, 2010   Date of arrival: July 25, 2010

We visited Manuel Antonio during Green Season so we made the most of every day by waking early and sitting out on the master bedroom balcony with our coffee and letting the wildlife come to us. We had morning visits from titi and white face Capuchin monkeys and it was terrific for bird watching also, including the Mot Mot. The highlight for me was seeing a pair of toucans! And they even came back another day! Casa Kalani is a beautiful home with quality tropical themed furnishings, so we really felt like we spent our vacation in luxury. We really appreciated the pool when we returned from our touring for the day. The caretaker met us when we arrived and gave us a good orientation of the property and the area, including restaurants and available tours. The property was very well maintained during our stay with the maid service and pool caretaker. We also appreciated having our security deposit returned in a very timely manner.
