activities and attractions in Pictou Nova Scotia
We are located just about in the middle of the Sunrise Trail along
Nova Scotia's northern coast. By clicking on the following links you
can research all sorts of festivals during the season like the River
John Festival Days plus various entertainment events in the area.
There are several places to hunt for antiques and other treasures as
well. Stop by the Seafoam Woodturning Studio. Here the owner works
with a variety of fine woods molding the beauty that nature has
created. You can rest assured that this beauty is not hidden by
poor craftsmanship.
Places of interest include the Balmoral Grist Mill Museum. which is
located in a wooded gorge near Tatamagouche. Visitors to the museum
can see how the mill grinds oats, wheat and buckwheat. Wooden
gearing, shafts and pulleys still drive the millstones, bucket
elevator, hoist, sifters and other machinery. Another point of
interest is the Sutherland Steam Mill Museum.
One must stop at the award winning Jost Winery at Malagash where
visitors are welcome year round to its winery store and vineyards.
A world famous shopping experience awaits you at the Seagull Pewter
Factory in Pugwash where you will find hundreds of items to choose
from in collections to suit every taste. Award-winning designers
have created everything from classical, traditional, contemporary,
and fun new styles in all product ranges.
If you want to hit the links one suggestion is the Sunrise Golf Club
on the Brule Peninsula. This 9 hole course offers a panoramic view
over Tatamagouche Bay from the all-pine Clubhouse as well as all
points on the course. Northumberland Links is a great test of golf.
Here your game will experience a real oceanside test. There is also
a driving range if you like to sharpen up. In New Glasgow there is
the Abercrombie Golf Club. Originally built as a nine-hole course in
1919, Abercrombie has progressed over its eighty years to one of
Nova Scotia's best tests of golf. When it was expanded to an
eighteen-hole layout the new holes were cut completely out of a
beautiful wooded landscape.
Other points of interest include the Barachois Marina and Lobster
Pound, RiverRun Golf Club in North River, the Horse Power Hotel
(trail rides and lessons) and boat rentals (sail, kayak, canoe).
At the new River John library you can access free computer use and
internet service.
There are lots of places to shop for unique area foods like Sugar
Moon Farm where they maintain the springtime tradition of creating
maple syrup over a wood-fired evaporator, fueled with mountain
hardwood logged from the property with their team of Clydesdales.
Definitely a can't miss is the Country Bread Basket Bakery on Brule
where you will find awesome bread & desserts. Try the Pork Shop in
Denmark or Huston's Butcher Shop in Tatamagouche.
You can go Clam digging and seal watching, or walk to the fishermans
warf, where you can purchase fresh lobster.
