Vacation Rental Description

Casa Quiroz is a magnificent luxury "Parra House" proudly situated at
the Paseo de la "Presa de la Olla", the most prestigious 19th Century
avenue of stately Victorian homes in Guanajuato, Gto.

Casa Quiroz is located in Guanajuato, Gto., historical colonial city
art and cultural mecca of Mexico's highlands. Guanajuato offers lots
of cultural activities all the year round.

Evoking colonial architecture, Casa Quiroz was designed and
constructed based on centennial family ruins, between 1990 and 1992 by
Manuel Parra, a Mexican architect internationally recognized in
architectural history for his work in the 1950's, 60's and 70's in
Mexico City's colonial towns of Coyoacan and San Angel (see the book
"Casa Mexicana" by Tim Street-Porter) and New York Times articles,
late 50's early 60's).

Manuel Parra is famous for having revived the colonial style in the
mid 20th century with much of Spanish and Mexican vernacular
influence.

This beautiful luxury two story light-filled house is a breathtaking
example of housing design in Mexico; situated in a lovely and peaceful
location in Guanajuato City, right in front of the stunning "Cerro de
la Bufa", and opening its doors to the most beautiful Porfirian park
in the city, the "Parque Florencio Antillon".

Casa Quiroz is your best choice if you are planning on visiting the
"Capital Cervantina de America". Just a 20 minutes easy-walk on
colonial cobble stone streets get you to Downtown Guanajuato or 5
minutes by car.

Lovely view of the 19th Century park, "Parque Florencio Antillon",
where the well known Mexican novelist Jorge Ibarguengoitia is
commemorated as a native Guanajuatense. Other famous Guanajuatense is
Diego Rivera. There is a Museum in his birthplace Downtown.

OUR GUEST COMMENTS.

# 1.
"26 Dec 2006
Dear Lourdes & Florencio,
We 've had a great week in Guanajuato and have enjoyed our stay
in your beautiful home so much. Once we were able to obtain firewood,
we spent cozy evenings around the fire.
It's nice to have the independence a home provides, and to be
able to make tea & coffee and to prepare our own breakfasts.
Thanks for the welcome coffee and the Christmas wine!
Happy 2007!

"Dear Lourdes and Florencio,
Magnificent arches, high vaulted ceilings, expansive sunny
windows - This is truly a wonderful, unique house.
It has provided an appropriate base for us to explore the equally
charming city. The city and your house both seem to grow out of the
hillsides.
We enjoyed the morning and evening fires that provide a center
to gather away from the chill of the season, and the sun that comes
streaming into the rooms all day.
Our Christmas season was delightful, and I hope that you and
your family have a happy new year in 2007!
Best wishes

Dear Florencio y Lourdes,
Thank you very much for opening your beautiful CASA for us!
We greatly enjoyed our week here. It was relaxing and a perfect
refuge after wandering the city streets and shops.
We took loads of pictures of your home. The location, the
wonderful nearby restaurants, the park, the bus lines worked great for
us!
MUCHAS GRACIAS!

"February, 2007
Dear Florencio,
I can not begin to tell you how much we enjoyed your house during
Christmas. We love Guanajuato, the city is so beautiful,
interesting, friendly and easy to get around on foot or bus. Your
house is in a perfect location, the park and lake across the street
are lovely and the house is away from the noise and business of the
central district. The rooms are beautiful, large and light and they
easily accommodated 3 couples. We loved the fireplace for heat and as
a center of conversation where we sometimes sat for hours during all
parts of the days. When we return to Guanajuato we will definitely be
calling you first to make reservations in your home.

Sincerely,
Leslie and Richard Andrews

stelle.

ripetere presto, forse proprio quest anno.

hospitalidad y practicos consejos.

March 2007
'Dear Florencio & Lourdes

Your house is elegant & esthetically stunning, and was very
comfortable for our needs. The neighborhood was a peaceful haven from
the noise & bustle of the centro which proved to be a cheap bus ride,
or an easy 20 minute walk away!
From the roof decks there are fabulous views of the mountains, the
city and lovely park. The city itself was exceptionally well kept &
clean, with gorgeous colonial architecture.
We ate at restaurants but find that we loved street food and we grew
especially fond of the grilled meat & cheese sandwiches just down town
the street.
Thank you so much for opening your beautiful house to us. We hope to
see you again very soon.
Muchas gracias !

Activities and Attractions

Guanajuato (Gua-nah-hoo-ah-toh) is a Colonial Gem sitting in a valley
around 220 miles north-west of Mexico City. If Mexico's Colonial
Cities were a crown, Guanajuato would without doubt be it's prime
jewel. The town has been named as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The great architecture of this gorgeous city was built with the
enormous wealth generated from the Silver mines that enjoyed their
heyday during the 17th and 18th centuries. At this time, Guanajuato
was the source for one-third of the world's silver supply.

Today, you can see Guanajuato in its unspoiled, perfectly preserved
splendor. It's like stepping back in time here; the city is incredibly
picturesque; make sure you bring a camera with you!

Guanajuato is clean, tidy and very safe. It's cobbled streets twist
and turn, just walking around is an adventure with new things to
discover and explore with every new corner. People often get lost in
this city - and have hours of fun discovering things they had never
planned to see, but glad they did!

This city has a genuine Spanish colonial in look, style, feel and
atmosphere. Cobbled streets, churches, asymmetrical buildings, an
amazing tapestry of color, vibrancy and sheer historical splendor
await all who travel to this stunning colonial gem - regarded by many
as the finest colonial city in Mexico.

Guanajuato is still largely an undiscovered treasure amongst the
foreign tourists to Mexico. It's a very popular weekend get-away for
Mexicans and their families, and if you take the time to visit this
picturesque city, you will not only uncover an infrequently visited
colonial gem, you'll walk away having experienced one of Mexico's
foremost experiences in colonial travel. Words and pictures alone
cannot justify Guanajuato; you'll have to go there and experience it
with your own senses!

Colonial Center

Guanajuato doesn't have a main square like the other Colonial Cities;
but the Jardin de la Union (Union Garden) a cheese-shaped botanical
space is a popular meeting place here.

However, Guanajuato does have lots of small plazas, each of which is
connected by an intricate and complex series of cobbled streets and
narrow alleys. Guanajuato winds and bends all over the place - it's a
delight to discover! Get a tourist map at the local tourism office.
If you get lost, the locals are very friendly and will point you in
the right direction!

Some of the more photogenic plazas are Plaza San Roque, which hosts
outdoor theater productions during the Festival Cervantino, and Plaza
de la Paz, adjacent to the Basilica and surrounded by mansions, owned
by former Silver magnates who lived here during the boom years.

Teatro Juarez is a major attraction - the architecture outside and the
decor inside are both well worth a look.

For great birds-eye photographs of the city get up to El Pipila; the
statue at the top of the hill, commemorating Jose de los Reyes
Martinez, who is said to have given his life opening the doors of the
granary where Guanajuato's rich and powerful magnates were sheltering
after Dolores Hidalgo stormed the town, enabling his rag-tag army to
move in and kill their enemies, thus taking control of the town during
the struggle for Independence.

Templo de Cata is a small miner's church, which you'll see up on the
mountain to the north of the City. Admission is free and this is
another good place from which to take photographs.

The Basilica is the main place of worship in Guanajuato; other main
churches include Iglesia de San Diego, Templo de la Compagnia de Jesus
and Templo de San Francisco.

Callejon del Beso is extremely famous. Translated it means "alley of
the kiss", and is so named because the balconies of adjacent buildings
are so close to each other they nearly touch. Locals will recite an
old tale of forbidden lovers for a small tip!

Those who like art won't want to miss Diego Rivera's Birthplace. The
house has been restored recently and converted into a museum. Some of
Rivera's early works are on display.

Learn Spanish in Guanajuato

Besides being one of Mexico's most beautiful colonial cities, it is
also a top venue for people who want to attend a residential Spanish
School in Mix learning and pleasure in the World Heritage city of
Guanajuato.

The climate in this region is ideal for golf - so no wonder there are
several golf courses in the area to enjoy!

The city of Guanajuato and its environs offer many activities and
attractions: theaters, historical buildings and monuments, museums,
churches, mines, colonial architecture, language schools, ceramic
shops and outdoor activities including tennis, thermal waters, hiking,
horseback riding, etc.
