Vacation Rental Description

Terrazza Bella is a fabulous, luxury apartment with a beautiful  
terrace filled with all kinds of potted plants and shrubs and very  
pretty views of roof-tops and hills. And, it is in the buzziest part  
of the historic centre of Spoleto, a pedestrian area that looks like  
a fantasy, an aesthetic feast for the soul. 
 
Terrazza Bella is in the famous Rocca dei Perugini (a listed  
building - no 24 on the Spoleto map) in the historical centre of  
Spoleto, a palazzo that we have deliberately invested in because of  
its magnificent location in Spoleto.  
 
This very beautiful building, which houses some of the most important  
people of these parts.......judges, architects, a chief of police…..  
is of immense historical significance for Spoleto because, just after  
the turn of the century, the Perugini conquered Spoleto and built the  
now-named Rocca dei Perugini as a strong-hold to guard their position  
and reign over the Spoletini.  
 
These were bloody times, indeed, for both the Spoletini and the  
Perugini because the Spoletini fought back by occupying the Torre  
Del’Olio just a few metres up the hill, a lane called Porta Fuga,  
and, there, they watched for the Perugini as they passed below,  
immediately dousing and killing them with burning oil. Just 2 years,  
and, many deaths by burning oil later, the Spoletini regained power  
in Spoleto and, ever since, Spoleto and Perugia have had an uneasy  
relationship !

pedestrian area, immediate to the apartment. 
 
Terrazza Bella (90 sq mts) has a smart bath room with a full-sized  
tub and hand-held shower, 1 large sitting/dining room with a very  
smart fitted kitchen running the entire length of one side of the  
room. The sitting/dining room is an incredibly attractive room with 1  
very large window and 2 sets of double doors, all of which open  
directly onto the terrace and its views of roof-tops, hills and the  
mountains beyond.  
 
Terrazza Bella has 2 double bedrooms - both with big double beds,  
although there is room to put a single bed dressed as a sofa into the  
sitting area, if required. Both bedrooms have French windows that  
open directly onto a balcony that runs the length of both bedrooms  
and overlooks the beautifully quaint, cobbled and arched street of  
Porta Fuga. 
 
The furniture in Terrazza Bella consists of bleached blonde,  
wooden bedroom furniture, fabulous “Italiana” lighting throughout,  
2 leather sofas and, beautiful wooden dining furniture for 4/5 with  
padded chairs. 
 
Terrazza Bella is serviced by a lift as well as a staircase. And,  
we have a private car space right next to the lift, in a private car- 
park that you can hire for 50 euros/week – the rate we pay the owner  
of the car-park. Having said that, it is quite easy to park in the  
nearby lanes, just a few minutes walk away, for free. 
 
The Rocca dei Pergini is in the centre of things so that you only  
have to step out of the Roman Corridor entrance to the palazzo to  
find restaurants, bars and shops, all waiting to entice you in and  
sample their goodies. And, the local rates are very reasonable  
indeed, especially if you stick to the places we recommend on our  
information sheets that we leave in each of the apartments for all  
our guest. 
 
Staying in Spoleto is like staying in a fairy-tale castle, peppered  
with piazzas, sprinkled with bars, restaurants and shops amidst a  
maze of tunnelled, cobbled lanes and alley-ways, all leading skywards  
to the famous Rocca and the aquaduct and, some of the best views in  
the world. This whole surreal setting is akin to a stage-set in the  
making, fringed by mountains, olive groves and vineyards and a  
mixture of mediaeval monasteries, towns, cities and tiny hill-top  
villages - all beckoning a visit ! However, for me, Spoleto is the  
ultimate temptress. Once under her spell, you are lost forever in her  
beauty. You must use all your will-power to leave this place, even  
for a short while. It is, quite simply, the most captivating city in  
Italy, never mind Umbria, Venice being on a par – the difference  
being that Venice has the water and Spoleto has the mountains.  
Nonetheless, like Venice, Spoleto has a history to be reckoned with. 
 
Subsequently, Spoleto is becoming more and more in demand with those  
in search of "a truly Italian" experience, love to be surrounded by  
beauty and who wish to base themselves in the centre of Italy  
because, from Spoleto, you can get to practically anywhere else in  
Italy easily and cheaply within minutes to a few hours.  
 
Up until now, it had always been too expensive to stay in Spoleto  
and, holiday-makers were forced to find apartments outside of Spoleto  
and drive in. However, we have changed all that and, in effect, we  
have "unlocked" Spoleto, having launched several apartments in  
central Spoleto at rates that are competitive with our "out of town"  
apartments, making Spoleto affordable for you, at last ! 
 
There is very easy access from Spoleto to Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia,  
Trevi, Montefalco, Norcia, Castelucia and the Gran Piano, Spello,  
Gubbio, Bevagna and a whole host of other tiny towns and cities. And,  
it is about a 1 hour drive to Rome. Spoleto is in the centre of it  
all !

Vacation Rental Amenities

Terrazza Bella is furnished with high quality fixtures/fittings  
and furniture. It is also equipped with a SKY SAT TV, which has all  
the documentary/film and news channels in English as well as a host  
of other programmes eg National Geographic, Animal Planet etc. And,  
it has a DVD with lots of modern films to choose from. 
 
The smart kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with fridge/freezer,  
microwave, hob, oven, washing machine and a dish- 
washer.....everything you would need for your holiday. 
  
The following items are also included in the rental rate : 
 
- cutlery (inc bottle openers), pottery, glasses, linen, towels,  
sheets, duvets etc; 
 
- ironing facilities; 
 
- a hair-dryer; 
 
- unlimited hot water and all the utilties...gas, electricity, wood  
(where appropriate); 
 
- a Welcome Pack consisting of wine, bread, rice, fruit, pasta, olive  
oil, all the condiments, tea, coffee, sugar etc - enough to keep you  
going while you find your bearings.

Activities and Attractions

Of particular interest to our guests who have children is the fact  
that there are several pools around here, all within easy reach. And,  
for those people without a car, the nearest pool is very large with  
picnic areas and a bar; and, there is a bus that takes you directly  
to this pool, which takes about 10 minutes. It stops at various  
points throughout Spoleto so that wherever you are staying, there  
will be a bus-stop conveniently placed for you. 
 
For the more sporty amongst you, there is a flash tennis club that  
you can use, which is within walking distance of almost anywhere you  
are staying – or, it is a short bus-ride from Piazza Garibaldi  
(otherwise, a 15 minute walk). And, there is pony trekking that takes  
place just outside of Spoleto. The stables are placed in a exquisite  
environment and, you can either go on long treks into the mountains  
or just do an hour or so in the nearby woods – all supervised, the  
level of supervision depending on your level of expertise. 
 
You can hire bikes. 
 
There is white water rafting in the locality. 
 
You can partake of wine-tastings, oil tastings, truffle trails etc. 
 
And, all around you are shops, bars and restuarants as well as  
museums and  churches.
