vacation rental description

Quiet, Upscale, Family Friendly Neighborhood within a Gated Community

Tucked on a quiet cul de sac in the gate guarded community of Playacar, the Villas Pakal were
designed around a Mediterranean theme with only 28, three bedroom, two and a half bath condos. Our
condo faces an inner courtyard where there is a pool, a children’s wading area, and a palapa that is
perfect to sit under day or night. Our “neighbors” across the street are all single-family luxury
homes, and at the end of the cul de sac is the Hacienda Vista Real including a re-created Mayan
temple that houses a day spa, a 30-foot waterfall, exercise facility, and a
climbing wall. From the roof top you can see the lights of Cozumel and the 18-hole golf course
that wraps itself through all of Playacar and goes past our complex as well.

Three Bedrooms and Two and a Half Baths. Each BR has its own balcony facing the inner courtyard.

If you are looking for a safe, calm place to bring your family or good friends, we are the perfect spot.
We chose it for its size, beauty and proximity to the beaches as well as to the nightlife Playa del
Carmen is known for. But at night, we can throw open the windows and sliding doors and hear only the
wind in the trees—or the early morning sounds of the birds reminding you that another day in paradise
is about to begin.

We seek good people who want a luxury vacation but who, like us, are on a budget. So far, this has worked well with people from Canada, Europe and the States coming and reporting they loved it. Our goal is not just to rent our place--it's to make some new friends and share what we were lucky enough to get before prices went crazy!

Our condo is unusual in Playa for its size—three bedrooms and two and half baths. The first floor
contains the living and dining areas and a spacious kitchen with an eat-in bar. Just off the kitchen
is a laundry room, and there is a half bath on this floor as well. We love the view from the living (See picture 2)
room that looks directly out to the palapa and the pool. We have satellite TV, DVD, and CD player
(bring your favorites!) and Internet access.

The second floor consists of two bedrooms and a full bath. Both bedrooms have private balconies that
look onto the pool area.

The third floor consists of the master bedroom and master bath plus a large walk-in closet. There is
another balcony where you can peer down to the pool or sit shaded by a tall tree that protects this
spot from public view. Early morning coffee or late-night drinks are fun from this vantage point.

Although the condo can sleep up to nine, we keep both an air mattress for extra guests and a portable “pack n
play” crib for wee ones!

The kitchen is fully equipped so making breakfast and lunch is easy. We tend to wander into town for
drinks and dinner or we go to one of three restaurants neaby (at the Pakal gate) at great prices. Of course name your food and or price on 5th Avenue.

Live in Colorado?

Colorado is our full-time home so if you live here e-mail us, and we will contact you for a
special rate for neighbors — OK, that extends to all our friends in Wyoming as well! We will discount
the published rates to you. Canada? You bet! Some of our best renters come down from Canada!

Green?

The entire Riviera Maya breaks from most of Mexico and is making an honest attempt to act green.
Playacar encourages recycling (you have to separate your paper, from plastics and from glass).

Philanthropic?

Leave your coins (Mexican) in the jar provided. When it's full we will donate to a local orphanage (You can't exchange coins so this is a good way to help out some very less fortunate kids!).

Safety?

The Yucatan is safe, clean and secure. Playacar is gated and within that is our complex, gated as well. In fact you will have to prove you are renting by leaving your license at the gate, getting a special card in our condo and showing it. They will then give your license back. You must show the card every time you enter AND exit. Really secure!!!

villa rental amenities

The Beach?

The closest beach is a fifteen to 18-minute walk (OK, we like to walk fast so you decide!), five or
so minutes by bike, but no shorter if you decide to drive because parking is challenging everywhere
in Playa. The sand on all of the beaches is white and is able to reflect the sun’s heat so that the
sand rarely feels hot. The Caribbean is generally in the low 80’s. Want something remote? Drive to
the Tulum area and you can spend a beach day with very few tourists around you. Snorkeling and scuba too! We have a pass you can use to go to the Reef Club--all day free or pay a fee and eat and drink from 9a to 6p!

Restaurants?

You thought 5th Avenue belonged to New York City? Think again! Playa del Carmen has developed a
walking street — Avenida Quinta — that goes from the gates of Playacar to the extreme north end of
town. There are so many restaurants that it’s best for you to check out what other guests have found
and how they have evaluated each. We keep the book in the condo. Since Playa attracts a lot of
Europeans, expect to find French and Italian restaurants and there is now a new crop of authentic
Argentine restaurants that feature great wines. Most restaurants open early for people with kids and
all stay open late for those who prefer a more continental experience. Some bars are reported to just
get going at midnight but we can’t confirm that!

Spanish?

Virtually everyone speaks English and loves to do so. French and Italian can be heard along with
German and Canadian English. Want to practice your rusty Spanish? They’ll love it! Want to improve your Spanish? Try
morning or all day classes at Solexico where you will find some of the best Spanish language
instruction in Mexico and at very reasonable prices. Ten minutes by car or bike.

activities and attractions in Playa del Carmen Yucatan

Sightseeing?

Playacar is easily accessed either from the north as you drive down from the Cancun Airport (60Km) or
from the south if you have gone to explore the Mayan ruins at Tulum (63Km), Coba (105 Km), or the
great pyramids at Chitzen Itza (200Km—take the toll road near the Cancun airport or drive south to
Tulum and go toll free.). With or without children, Xel Ha is well worth the short ride. Once there
you can swim with dolphins, tube down a gently flowing river or swing out and plunge into the water,
and finally snorkel with all manner of tropical fish. Xcaret is just a few minutes from our house and
there you can experience an almost Mexican Disneyland!

Throughout the Yucatan you can find a range of “cenotes” or underground caves. You can find ones in
which to dive and swim or simply walk through. Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park is a short distance south
of our place. Go a little farer south—between Akamal and Tulum and you will find Aktun Chen, a
spectacular natural park with caves and a wildlife zoo. Of course snorkeling and diving are wonderful
and you will find a number of nearby shops that will do everything from certify you to take you on an
exotic trip to a nearby reef. Our family has used Tank-Ha and found it to be very good. Want an island trip? North of Cancun is the ferry to Isla Mujeres--gorgeous!

Money?

You can exchange dollars at clearly published rates (which can change daily) at a “Casa de Cambio”
found on every street. If you don’t have time to exchange your money and you have dollars or Euros, they are
accepted everywhere. If you plan to use your credit cards, we have found it’s a good idea to notify
the bank before coming down—unless of course you travel here frequently.

Want a Disney-like experience for the kids? Xel HA or Xcaret--the kids will love it!
