5 Bedroom, 4 Story Penthouse w/pool! in Rio de Janeiro

Excellent Location But Pictures Are Not True

First of all our group had a fantastic time in Rio.

Now the the good points about the apartment:

1: Excellent location with taxi and bus service at your door step. Banks directly across the street and lots of food and groceries in the area.
2: Door man on service 24 hours except Wednesday night.
3: Safe building and you want that in Rio.
4: Large Apartment with 3 bedrooms and an open loft area that is semi private with a small spiral stair case.
5: Refund of US$550.00 was returned quickly.
6: Agent bent over backwards to accomadate credit card payments.
5: Quiet building

The bad points:

1: Thou the pictures are correct they are very old as the apartment is in major need of renovations. The apartment is very dated and is not spanking new as the pictures make you believe. With very old funiture, sofa in the second living area is torn and dingy looking.
2: There is a pool but actually it's the size of an 5 person jaccizi. Very small and you cannot party there as there is litterally no space as you go up a very tiny spiral stair case directly to the pool.
3: Apartment comes with everying but it's very basic, with a mix mash of plates, knives, forks so if you wanted to entertain you cannot.
4: No insturctions left in the apartment in english or portuguese like channel guide, how to use the safe etc.
5: There is no aircondition in the living room or second living area, so in the hot summer months December to March be concerned.
6: The previous review is correct about the aircondition leading off the master bedroom to the second entertainment area. It is exposed to the area and once on makes the entire area warm. It's the only place you have a view of the beach.
7: Not an apartment for older people as every stair case is a winding one with a low ceiling on the lower floor.
8: The two bedrooms looking onto the main street have a blacony but very old looking with lots of street noise.

Overall the apartment is good for people who just want to drop their bags, have a safe place to sleep and party in Rio.
One of our group actually saw a smillar apartment in Copacabana with 4 bedrooms, much more clean and modern for US$400.00 per night but seeing these pictures and the pool made us consider this. But at this price the apartment is not worth it. I would pay no more than US$300.00 to US$350.00 per night, unless some major work is done on the apartment.

Again it's not as modern and clean looking as the pictures seem.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car

what you dont see is what matters

I rented this penthouse inm february a few weeks before carnival and met with the marcello the guy handling the property. The pictures are very misleading in that the bed in the master bedroom was broke, the terrace was totally un useable due to its decrepit state and it being 1,000 degrees there due to the fact it was enclosed by glass and the air conditioners exhaust from the 2 adjoining rooms gave off immense heat. the airconditoner in the living room was broke, and never worked. Only one tv had cable and there was no radio at all. the pool was ok for the first 2 days however i had to practically beg to have it cleaned whick took 5 days. by that time it looked like a swamp. i was very disaapointed by this place, dont be fooled by the pictures. I even had someone go to the apartment before i got there to make sure it was okay, but they were never given access, now i know why...skip this dump!!!!!
