As you turn off the main road onto the 500 foot long winding wooded
lane, your anticipation grows. When you pull up to the back of the
house, you can already smell the fresh, clean breeze coming off of
Lake Michigan. And, when you open the car door, you can hear the
waves. You rush toward the front yard and as you walk to the edge of
the 50 foot bluff, overlooking your private beach, you are
overwhelmed by the beauty of this place. You don’t wait to unpack
the car. You rush down the 60 steps to the beach. You kick off your
shoes and run to the waters edge. You only intend to test the water
but, before you know it you’re in up to your knees, your pants are
wet, and you don’t even care. And, so begins one of the most
memorable vacations you’ll ever experience.
With three bedrooms upstairs and a children’s dorm in the basement,
there’s plenty of room for large families and small reunions. The
screened in porch is a perfect place to curl up with your
favorite book, write a letter, build a puzzle, or challenge the kids
to a game of gin rummy. The home is air conditioned for those rare
occasions when the cool breeze coming off of the lake isn't enough to
maintain your comfort. And, the living room features a gas fireplace
that can take the chill off of cool, off-season, evenings. The
kitchen is fully equipped and features two microwaves to handle the
rush to "eat fast and get back down to the beach". Two bathrooms,
one with a shower and the other with a tub/shower combination, handle
the call of nature. For those that can't miss their afternoon soap,
even while on vacation, there are three televisions, all with basic
cable, throughout the house. If you forgot to pack enough socks,
have no fear. A washer and dryer reside in the basement.
I addition to swimming and sun bathing on your own private beach,
you’re just minutes from Michigan Adventure, one of the largest water
and amusement parks in the upper Midwest. There's the USS
Silversides, a World War II era submarine that’s open for daily tours
during the summer and dune scooter rides at Silver Lake, near Shelby,
just an hour or so north. And, there are numerous antique shops in
the Muskegon area and along US 31, between Muskegon and Holland.
There is also a high speed ferry that crosses Lake Michigan to
Milwaukee in just two and a half hours. For the golfer in the family
there are several golf courses within convenient driving distance and
for the history buff there's the White River light house along the
channel from White Lake to Lake Michigan and the Hackley and Hume
homes near downtown Muskegon. And, just a half mile north on Scenic
Drive is the historic Red Rooster tavern. Check out their wet
burritos.
Rates range from $750 per week during the off season to $2000 per week during the holiday week of
July fourth. State and local taxes and a cleaning fee are additional. A complete week by week rate
schedule is available on request. A $250 deposit is required to secure your reservation. Check in
is 3:00 pm and check out is 10:00 am, on Saturdays.
Our home is non-smoking only, please.
