vacation rental description

On the second floor (no elevator/lift) at the back of the house overlooking gardens of birch trees, this apartment has a large (18' X 22') main room, an eat-in, well equipped, windowed kitchen, and a generous bathroom with a floor length window.

The kitchen has a 4 chair dining table, while the living/dining room has its own six chair formal dining table, Murphy bed, sofa and armchairs.

A closet area off the living /dining room towards the middle of the building houses the second Murphy bed, a dresser and clothes hangers that can be closed off by two massive original sliding doors.

The apartment has its own Wifi internet connection and satellite DirecTV servicing a 34' TV screen.

The house: The building itself, an1895 Brownstone five-story jewel, is located right on the cross town bus route, between the two subway lines serving the West side of Manhattan. The close subway and bus access means that the rest of the City - MOMA, Lincoln Center, the Empire State building, United Nations, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Theater District, for starters, are just a few minutes away. It’s across Columbus Avenue from the new Planetarium and the old Museum of Natural History. Being a block from Central Park means that a few minutes walk gets you to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the other Museum Mile occupants on Fifth Avenue.

Eating and drinking: Going the other way out the door gets you to Zabar’s famous delicatessen and, down Broadway a bit, Fairway supermarket with its extensive fish, meat and fruit and vegetable markets. Good wine stores are common. For non-cookers, the sheer number and ethnic variety of restaurants within only a few blocks is huge.

traveler reviews for this manhattan apartment rental

Great NYC experience

Review submitted: August 6, 2013   Date of arrival: July 24, 2013

This was our first Home Away experience and it was terrific. We came to NYC for our oldest son's wedding in Central Park. The location was perfect. We were a block and a half away from the park. It was located near the subway, which was very convenient. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. Mr Walling met us when we arrived and spent time talking with us about where we could go to purchase groceries and a quick lesson on the subways and buses. He was the perfect host. We would definitely use this listing again if we were to return to NYC. There was plenty of room for 3 adults.
We were able to enjoy our son's wedding plus visit some of NY city's and the Bronx attractions. We went to the 9/11 Memorial, a Yankee's game (our 22 yo favorite team), the Bronx Zoo, a Schooner trip off Pier 62 and the most beautiful wedding at the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park.
We would recommend this apartment for your next visit to NYC.

Owners response: I am so pleased they enjoyed their stay!

Elegant, comfortable and super well stocked!

Review submitted: August 12, 2012   Date of arrival: June 25, 2012

This apartment was a lifesaver to us! So beautiful and elegant, with everything a family could need - all in it's place. The murphy beds transformed the elegant living room into a bedroom for 4 - and were incredibly comfortable.(And the sheets felt like 500 count!) Shades, every kitchen tool, gorgeous glass ware and dinner ware, elegant bathroom - all provided with friendly host and advice on where to go with our kids. I never would have believed that a "vacation rental" could truly have all the comforts of home, especially when I really wanted a good kitchen to feed my small children. And it's in one of the best neighborhoods in New York City. We ate at Zabars, played at the museum, and dined at the trendy restaurants on Columbus, walking in Central Park whenever we wanted since it was so close. I'm going back to this place again - and will highly recommend it to everyone.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway
