San Cristobal is a charming colonial town rich in Mayan culture and
local history. The town's many churches display several styles of
colonial architecture and breathtaking statues and artwork.
Surrounded by Mayan villages and ruins, the town is only a day trip
away from places such as San Juan Chamula, Zinacantan, Palenque,
Tonina, El Chiflon, Agua Azul, Misol Ha waterfalls, the Cañon del
Sumidero and the primitive Lacandon Jungle. Local craft, jewelry
and textiles can be found in abundance in the many shops downtown
and at the famous market of the Santo Domingo church. Restaurants
offering local and international cuisine are plentiful, and high
quality as well as economy can be found.
