Vacation Rental Description

Lady Slipper Lodge
Wow! Vacation homes like this don't come around very often. The
Lady Slipper Lodge is located in the Chippewa National Forest in
north central Minnesota about 3 and one-half hours north of
Minneapolis. The nearest town is Remer which is about 5 miles from
the Lodge. The Lady Slipper Lodge offers privacy and serenity on 30
acres of woods and trails on a point between an 80-acre lake and a
60-acre lake. The Lakes are called Upper and Lower Milton and they
are connected by a navigable channel at the end of the point. The
Lodge is the only home on one of the two lakes and it shares the
other lake with only one other lake home. All the rest of the land
all around both lakes is National Park, state or county
land.

Vacation Rental Amenities

Lady Slipper Lodge

If you like peace and quiet, this is the place for you. You will
be more than a mile from the nearest tar road at the end of a 1/2-
mile driveway where nearly the only sounds you will hear will be
those of nature. You may see occasional boat on the lake because
there is a public access and it is a great fishing lake for sunnies,
crappies, bass and northern. However, unless you are there on a
popular weekend, there is a very good chance you won't see another
person at all.

The Lodge was built in 1996. It has 23' high vaulted ceilings in
the great room and an open foor plan so people in the kitchen can
still be part of the festivities. The walls in the great room are
knotty pine for that "up north" atmosphere and the walls of the 3-
season porch are a wonderful aromatic cedar.

The Lodge is a 2-story walkout with a deck on 2 sides. The
upper level is the main living area with 2 bedrooms with queen-sized
beds and walk-in closets. The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked
with normal necessities including seasonings. The large bathroom
includes a shower and a jacuzzi tub. The 3-season porch also has two
foutons for your extra guests. One is queen-sized and the other is a
single.

The lower level also has two bedrooms with queen-sixed beds in
each room. There is also a hide-a-bed and a single bunk above one of
the queen-sized beds. FOr the rainy days, there is an 8' slate pool
table with a ping-pong top as well.A large washer and dryer are also
in the lowerlevel to make your stay more convenient.
There is a dock with a bench seat on either side of the point, so
whether you like sunrises or sunsets, you will have the best seat in
the house. There is also comfortable outdoor furniture and a stainless
steel table outside for cleaning fish.

The Lady Slipper Lodge also provides for the following items:
Full Kitchen

Activities and Attractions

Lady Slipper Lodge

As the name implies, this land was blessed with Minnesota's
state flower, the Showy Lady Slipper. In fact, one year, 685 blossoms
were counted. So, for the nature lover, you will enjoy our many trails
throughout the 30 acre estate and the wide variety of wild flowers
that abound. You will also likely see bald eagles, deer, ducks, and
many song birds. You may also see the local otters and trumpeter
swans. Also, be careful of deer on the road as you drive the 5 miles
from Remer to the Lodge. Also, if 30 acres is not enough to tire you
out, you can hop on and hike nearly all the way across Minnesota on
the North Country Hiking trail that runs right along the lake.

Also, help yourself to any of the cross country skiing equipment
at the Lodge and enjoy the many trails both on and off the estate.

For the boater with 4-wheel drive, you can launch your boat right
on the property. You can also enjoy the 17' canoe, two small fishing
boats and the pontoon style paddle boat at no extra cost. Also, on a
hot day you can feel refreshed swimming from our 106' floating dock
to our carpeted, stainless steel swimming raft. The Lodge also offers
for rent a 20' pontoon boat with a 40-horsepower Mercury motor for
$250 a week. We'll even start you off with a tank of gas, but we ask
that you leave a full tank for our next guest also.

For the fisherman, the lake offers fantastic fishing in both
lakes. The lakes are deep with the deepest hole being 54 feet, and
they are fed by a small river from a nearb lake. Our guests have
caught sunnies nearly a pound, crappies more than 2 pounds and
northerns more than 12 pounds. The lake has given up some whopper
bass too. Fish from a boat in one of the honey holes or in May, June
and July, right off the end of the floating dock. There are also great
walleye lakes nearby including famous Leech lake. Milton Lake is also
known as a great ice fishing lake for crappies and if you are new to
ice fishing, we will offer new for the winter of 2008/2009, an
ice fishing package for $250.00 that includes a portable fish house,
a new power gas auger, jig sticks, ice fishing rods, tackle and miscellaneous
ice fishing suppiles.

For the hunter, this area offers some of the best ruffed grouse
habitat in all of the America. The logging that has taken place in
the Chippewa National Forest over the last 20 years has created
fantastic edges of popple, gray dogwood and other grouse favorites.
There are also large stands of oak as well that attract all kinds of
wildlife. Also, if it's not hunting season, we have cleared an area
at the top of a high hill where you will enjoy shooting clay
pigeons. You will need to throw them yourselves though. There is also
a dirt pile which makes for a safe spot for target practice.

Deer also have made an amazing comeback in Cass County so much so
that the Minnesota DNR has allowed liberal licenses for the deer
hunter. Although only bow hunting is allowed at the Lady Slipper
Lodge, the adjacent Chippewa National Forest offers miles and miles
of trails and forest where hunting is welcome - just don't forget
your map and compass.

The many miles of wilderness in Cass County also make it one of
the state's best areas for black bear hunting. If you like beer
hunting, be sure to stop in at the Trading Post in Remer and see the
trophy taken by one of Remer's own hunters.

If you have an ATV or snowmobile, this is the place for you. The
Chippewa National Forest offers nearly unlimited riding potential.
You can ride right from the Lodge to the Soo Line Trail and take
that NW to Cass Lake or SE to Moose Lake. There are also hundreds of
miles of snowmobile trails and logging roads that are open to ATV's.
Ride south to Outing or East to Hill City or explore any of the many
trails in between. Also, the Blandin Paper Company generously allows
ATV's on its hundred square miles or so of forest near Grand Rapids.

One of the main reasons many people come "up north" is to enjoy riding their ATV's and the
Remer area offers many trails and roads where ATV riding is allowed. There have been, however, some
recent restrictions put in place by the Minnesota DNR and the Chippewa National Forest and therefore
we highly recommend that if you plan on riding ATV's on your vacation, that you check with the DNR
and the Forest Service to make sure your intended trails are open to ATV's.
The Minnesota DNR has been busy placing signs in the various state parks that will say whether
a particular trail is open or not. The Chippewa Forest Service has also been doing that, but they
are a little behind. The Forest Service though has printed a large free map that shows the trails
that are open to ATV's in the Chippewa National Forest. You can get one by contacting the Forest
Service at the link below. If you plan on riding ATV's in the area around the Lady Slipper Lodge,
you definitely should get a copy of this map. We will have one at the Lodge and we would be happy to
send you a copy of the part of the map around the Lodge.
Some of the roads around the lady Slipper Lodge are county or township roads where the Chippewa
National Forest Rules may not apply, so its a good idea to also check with the DNR to make sure you
are familiar with the state's rules regarding ATV's as well.
Here are some web addresses that you can also use:
DNR www.mndnr.gov
Chippewa National Forest www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/chippewa/

For the golfers in your group, this area offers some of the best
up north courses around including Rutger's at Sugar Lake in Grand
Rapids and several other smaller courses near Remer and Longville,
Minnesota.

Also, if you have a taste for nightlife, the Northern Lights
Casino in Walker is just 30 minutes from Remer and there are some
very fun kareoke bars in and around Remer where you can impress your
friends. Also, if you get tired of frying fish, Remer also offers
several fine restaurants. Or for those of you who would rather stay
close to home, there is nothing quite like a campfire with
complimentary firewood supplied.

For the ladies, you will be able to enjoy yourselves all day
about 30 minutes from Remer in Walker where you will find many
exciting and unique shops. There are also many interesting antique
shops in Crosby which is 42 miles south of remer on Highway 6.

For the kids, if they get tired of swimming with our large inner
tubes, canoeing or catching fish, there is a treehouse for them to
play in as well various outdoor games such as beanbag toss and
croquet.
