Perfect Getaway!

Corona (Ottawa)
Review submitted: January 25, 2011   Date of arrival: December 30, 2010

We had such a wonderful vacation at Casa de las piernas pinturas. Right on the beach with beautiful sunsets every night. The house exceeded our expectations : huge, well-kept, clean with lots of attention to detail, towels in quantity, chairs and anything you needed, just ask Marilyn. What can we say about Marilyn, she was great! Came regularly to the house, made sure we didn't need anything and provided helpful advice. Celestun is not for everyone, small town with everything you need if you don't need too much! Great walk to the village on the secluded beach about 30 minutes. Car recommended to get to village in the evening as it gets pretty dark for the last kilometer. All in all, wonderful place that we will definitely want to visit again. Marilyn, thanks for everything!

Peaceful, Beautiful, and Right on the Beach!!

Review submitted: March 21, 2010   Date of arrival: March 1, 2010

We wanted a quality rental all our own on a quiet beach and did we ever get it! The villa is beachfront, with a huge sandy front yard dotted with big coconut palms. The grounds are immaculate. Nicely decorated, super clean and obviously was designed with peace and comfort in mind. Lots of windows let in the breezes, and the roof deck is fantastic for morning coffee or watching the sunset. We enjoyed the beachfront seafood restaurants alternating with cooking in the super well equipped kitchen of the house. If you are looking for a spring break/party spot, Celestun is not the place. But if a lovely private home on an uspoiled sandy beach with plenty of shells to gather is your idea of a vacation. . this is it.

The entire property is fenced, with attractive yet functional gates at the beachside and on the road to ensure security, a good feeling even in this sleepy town. We chose this rental partially because it is a great value and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of everything from construciton to furnishings to the grounds. Truly a deal. Relaxing siestas in a hammock, the ever present gentle roll of the waves, and cooling Gulf breezes were just what the stress doctor ordered. Wi-fi and US satellite TV including the HBO level were a great touch. We discovered Celestun on a visit to its amazing nature preserve with its population of thousands of flamingos. After the tour, we had a swim at the beach and were amazed at how few people were on it. It just hasn't been discovered yet. Celestun is a real Yucatan fishing village, just beginning to get tourists. People are friendly, mostly of Mayan origin and involved with the sea in some way. The owners live near by and are most accomodating and knowledgeable of the area. Many nature tours are availale in the biosphere with over 200 species of birds. Biking is great, whether for the short ride into town or along the many nature trails. This would be a perfect spot for a couple's getaway, for nature lovers and sun worshippers seeking to leave stress behind. Can't wait to come back!!!

EXCELLENT FIND for adverturers, couples, or families.

I want to live here!!!

I wish this casa was mi casa! We first stayed here last winter and immediately booked for this year. We like peace and quiet, warm water, and not a lot of people and that's just what this little fishing town has. Meanwhile, the house is gorgeous, right on the beach, not awesome luxury but definitely upscale amenities like big kitchen with microwave, blender, plenty of dishes, pots and utensils, and full sized fridge, washer, US satellite tv and dvd library. We used the master bedroom upstairs, with a dreamy wrap around balcony up in the coconut palms. One downstairs bedroom has a hammock and a TV so we saved that for napping. We felt safe at all times....the property is gated at beachside and at the road. Great shelling on the sandy beach, sunsets from the deck, grilled shrimp and cold beers.... The owners live next door and are laid back, very welcoming and know the ins and outs of local birding, the flamingo tours, day trips to ruins, where to eat, shop, even the best beach vendors... the grounds are beautifully landscaped with huge coconut palms and a thatched roof palapa with deck chairs for contemplating the ocean. We got lots of reading done, enjoyed great walks, and alternated cooking with trying the various seafood restaurants in town -- all very reasonable. The house is about a mile from the center of town. This year we are here for a month and feel very lucky to have found the place. There are about five species of hummingbirds at the feeder on the deck, and they compete with a stunning pair of orioles. Not a lot of tourists here, this is definitely an authentic experience.... but in a great house with the comforts of home. Don't expect a party scene, this is for relaxation and enjoying nature on what is practically your own private beach. Luscious!
