vacation rental description
"Dream of the Dolphin" Ocean Front Retreat. All photos are taken
from the property.
Escape frenetic city life to the sound of pounding surf at your
doorstep and miles of broad beach and Cape Cod style dunes in both
directions. In this ideal beach hideaway, located at the narrowest
point where the Bay meets the open ocean (with only about 1500 feet
between) you can count the dolphins (literally dozens on an average
day) from your living room or watch the sun rise over the ocean from
the deck.
Situated on the last pristine beach in the Mid-Atlantic region – with
protected acreage buffering you in both directions, this is the
essence of the “Quiet Resort” of residential (unincorporated) Fenwick
Island. You can swim in the ocean, body surf and boogie board, kayak
with the dolphins or walk 2½ miles north on an unobstructed protected
beach with dunes on one side and ocean on the other til you reach S.
Bethany. All without getting in a car.
And bring your dog, to walk or to swim in the surf, because this area
of beach is one of the very few in the nation that permits dogs on
the beach 365 days a year, 24 hrs per day (on leash, of course). And
well behaved dogs are welcome in this house (until recently, the
primary residence of a 3 legged golden retriever who was forced to
relocate…). The Pompeii style Italian tile floor is dog-friendly.
Located ½ mile from Fenwick Island town, 2 ½ miles from South
Bethany, and 2 miles from the action of Ocean City, this 2 bedroom, 2
bath condo is one of only 4 units directly on the beach in this
private oasis called The Shoals (only 8 units total). Views are for
miles down the beach in both directions and the beach is broad and
flat, flanked by the largest dune in Delaware or Maryland, right in
your front yard.
You also have a grassy yard and a garden filled with exotic
cultivated flora (and fauna too, in the form of a red fox on the dune
at day break and rabbits nibbling the edible plants). Sleeping 6,
this house is ideal for a family (one species or two), for 2-3
couples (the queen futon bed in the living room presenting perhaps
the most desirable alternative – hearing the waves clearly all night
and off season, sleeping before a roaring fire in the working
fireplace) or for a small "circle of friends" to spend a relaxing
week away from it all.
One guest commented that this house feels like being in the boat in
Hemingway’s “Old Man and the Sea” – it is so at one with the ocean
and the sand. You can enjoy the breezes and the views through the
two new sets of floor to ceiling glass doors, even while checking
your email on the high speed cable at the corner desk in the living
room,. And you will eat, drink and be merry on the generous deck
with outdoor dining furniture (and a barbeque grill in the yard
below).
This is the first season that this home has been rented – it is
furnished for the owners who have spent summers here since 1999
(Tommy Bahama, Island Rattan and Pottery Barn furniture, Italian tile
in living area and MBR etc). In addition to its proximity to Bethany
and Ocean City, with its Boardwalk and kids' activities, this beach
hideaway is 25 min to Rehoboth, with its sophisticated nightlife and
shopping (and tax free outlets).
