There are many things to do and see. In addition to the list below,
we have featured several locations from which to start your vacation:
·Pass-a-Grille
Escape to the “no high rise” beach paradise at this land’s end
Florida’s beach community. Though officially part of St. Pete Beach,
where Gulf Boulevard winds into Pass-a-Grille Way the visitor has a
glimpse of “Old Florida.” Four miles of undeveloped public beach
along Gulf Way on the Gulf of Mexico wrap around the end of the key
to meet Boca Ciega Bay on the harbor side of Pass-a-Grille. Savor
the laid-back relaxed style of this community – Hemingway would have
called it “the quiet Key West.” Go on a shelling or snorkeling
excursion to Shell Key, watch the dolphins play; or enjoy gentle sea
breezes on a sunset cruise. Take a stroll on 8th Avenue, where
you’ll find galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. A unique
Florida’s Beach experience awaits the visitor in Pass-a-Grille.
·Egmont Key
The ferry from Fort De Soto Park that takes you a short distance
into the mouth of Tampa Bay to reach Egmont Key State Park doubles
as a time machine that takes you a century into the past.
As the United States braced for the Spanish-American War in the late
1890s, it established a military presence on Egmont Key, building
Fort Dade, weapons batteries and other buildings to support troops.
The buildings were abandoned or destroyed decades ago but much of
the island still captivates curious souls. Climb atop Fort Dade for
panoramic views, then linger to appreciate them and the peace of
nature as young minds roam inside the fort, using imagination to
bring the past to a fun new life. Most of the ferry crowd makes the
fort its first stop, but you can find as much privacy as you desire.
The old walkways, mostly brick but some cement, make it easy to
explore the 1.6-mile long island. Uncover adventure as you turn
corners and find new paths to travel.
Look for shells in the sand or tortoises in the brush, then wade or
swim in enchanting water, as clean and picturesque as you’ll find
anywhere. The 1858 lighthouse helps ships and island visitors stay
oriented.
Waves lap on the shore and sea breezes stir palm trees and beach
grasses at this national historic site. The half-hour trips over and
back from Fort De Soto are an ooh-and-ahh treasure hunt: Keep your
eyes open for dolphins, cormorants and pelicans.
·Downtown St. Petersburg
Welcome to beautiful downtown St. Petersburg, known worldwide for
the fabulous Million Dollar Pier.
Come experience all that this Renaissance cosmopolitan city situated
on Florida’s Beach has to offer. St. Petersburg is home to the Dali
Museum, which houses the most extensive collection of Dali works
outside of Spain; just one of the many cultural venues within
walking distance in downtown.
Enjoy Major League Baseball Florida style with the Devil Rays at
Tropicana Field, or during spring training at Progress Energy Park.
Enjoy shopping, dining or the movies, all for your pleasure at St.
Petersburg’s premier Bay Walk Center. Take a stroll on the downtown
waterfront to see the historic St. Petersburg Yacht Club, one of the
oldest yacht clubs in the United States, just a five minute walk to
The Pier to dine and enjoy the stunning vistas of Tampa Bay by day
or evening light.
Don’t’ know where everything is – don’t want to get lost? Sit back
and take a trip on The Looper, the trolley that “loops” downtown
every half hour; and the driver will acquaint you with all beautiful
downtown St. Petersburg has to offer.
Downtown, waterfront, entertainment, dining, history and culture all
beckon the visitor to St. Petersburg.
Four miles of beautiful white sandy beaches on the glorious Gulf of
Mexico is a must see for visitors of all ages.
St. Petersburg Beach
St. Pete Beach is home of the famous Don Cesar, this glittering pink
palace of Florida’s Beach. From the shops and restaurants along St.
Pete Beach, to the longest undeveloped stretch of public beach
Pinellas County at Pass-a-Grille, there is something for every
visitor to St. Pete Beach.
Visit the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, site of the first church
built on Pinellas County’s barrier islands. Historic Corey Avenue
features a variety of unique shops, galleries, restaurants and the
historic Beach Theater. Want to know where everything is - hop on
the Suncoast Beach Trolley.
From St. Pete Beach to every beach, ride instead of drive through
the beach communities. And, of course, enjoy the best reason for
your visit - your days at the beach – and don’t forget the sunsets!
