Wonderful escape to Paradise!

Betsy (Philadelphia)
Review submitted: April 5, 2011   Date of arrival: March 22, 2011

Cabana Samasati was perfect for our family of four (two parents, ages 51 & 53, and two daughters, ages 12 & 16), and we spent seven (7) very happy days there. It provided everything we needed: a comfortable, peaceful and private place to sleep; a reasonably well-equipped kitchen with ample refrigerator and four gas-powered burners to prepare basic meals for breakfast, some lunches, and even some dinners; ample seating and comfortable cushions to accommodate any seating preference in the kitchen/living area of the cabin where we played cards and scrabble; a beautiful, well-maintained beach right in front of the property; constant refreshing breezes from the Gulf which kept us cool and mosquito-free; a lovely thatched roof over outdoor seating with two wonderful hammocks strung between the supporting posts, where we read a lot of books; boogie boards to enjoy the surf; a clean and pleasant bathroom/shower/sink in a separate little hut; and, most of all, incredible views of the ocean from the privacy and shade of the front (master) bedroom, the living area, and the outdoor seating. The daily cleaning provided by Ingrid is thorough, and we always felt comfortable. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. But if you value privacy and independence over being pampered, this place is perfect. It is very simply, yet tastefully, appointed, but we found everything we needed. The only downside (which didn't turn out to be as bad as I had anticipated) was that, since the bathroom is located about 20 yards from the main hut, it's a bit of a long stagger downstairs and across the sand if you get up in the middle of the night. (Take flashlights!)

We enjoyed day trips to: Mayan ruins at Tulum and Coba, snorkeling at Akumal (sea turtles), and touring the caves at Aktunchen. We had planned to tour the Biosphere, nearby, but ran out of time. We also enjoyed dinners at Zama's, Villa de las Estrellas, and the outdoor place across the street and up from Zama's.

While we were there, the wind blew the entire time; the screens in the windows didn't seem to be necessary, since I never saw a mosquito. The ocean always had waves; this is not a place to snorkel. We wanted to snorkel, so we searched our guidebook and drove to places where snorkeling was recommended with mixed success. (Best snorkeling was on a boat trip off Cozumel -- we took the ferry over from Playa del Carmen, where we spent our last two nights.)

I would love to go back! GO!

Excellent Experience

Liud (Houston)
Review submitted: September 24, 2010   Date of arrival: August 28, 2010

We spent 10 days at Cabana Samasati at the end of August and had a wonderful experience. We were looking for a quick and easy trip from Houston because we have a baby less than a year old, but also wanted to stay away from the big crowds. Tulum was a perfect choice. The flight from Houston to Cozumel is about two hours followed by a scenic ferry ride and an hour drive along highway 307, which had perfect indications. The cabana was everything we expected - located right on the beach, clean, convenient, and having all necessary amenities. The beach is beautiful and very peaceful. The couple that kept the property - Ingrid and Vicente, went the extra mile to accommodate us and make our stay comfortable.
Tulum is a ten-minute drive from the cabana. There are lots of small stores and restaurants offering genuine local cuisine. Also, the Tulum ruins are only a few miles away, as is Akumal, which has one of the best snorkeling beaches around.
Overall, we were very pleased with our vacation and would definitely recommend Cabana Samasati to our friends.
