activities and attractions in Yellowstone Montana

Sightseeing is one of the primary activities beginning with
Yellowstone National Park and its animals and other wildlife,
geysers and other thermal features, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone,
and so much more. Other attractions include Grizzly and Wolf
Discovery Center, I-Max theatre, Museum of the Yellowstone, Playmill
theatre, and rodeos, all within 7 blocks. Further afield, visit
Hebgen Lake and Dam, Road to the Clouds on Sawtell Mountain, feed
the trout at Big Springs and visit the Johnny Sack Cabin, check out
the Centennial Valley and Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge,
tour the Gravelley Mountain Range on the interpretive auto route,
stop and explore Virginia City (the historic territorial capital of
Montana) with its gold mining artifacts, playhouse theatre, and
museum. A little further away, but still an easy day trip are Lewis
and Clark Caverns, Big Sky Ski Resort with gondola ride, Jackson
Hole and Grand Teton Park, and the St. Anthony sand dunes.

Trout fishing is possibly better here than anywhere else in the
USA. Many streams and rivers in Yellowstone are open and outside
the park you can choose from the Madison River, Hebgen Lake, Henrys
Lake and Henrys Fork of the Snake, Gallatin River, Elk Lake, Cliff
Lake, Wade Lake and hundreds of small streams and ponds. Truly Blue
Ribbon fishing!

Fall brings a change of colors in the quaking aspens, and hunting
outside the park in Montana and Idaho for elk, deer, bear, moose,
mountain goat, bighorn sheep, antelope, mountain grouse, ducks,
geese, and more.

Winter covers the landscape with deep snows and snowmobiling and
skiing take the forefront. There are over 600 miles of groomed and
marked snowmobile trails to ride right from the townhouse parking
lot. The trails access Yellowstone Park (Sleds must stay on groomed
regular park roads and do not harm the animals, thermal features or
other features of the park), and also the vast national forests
outside the park. There is powder riding on thousands of square
acres, many vertical walls for dedicated hillclimbers, animal safari
areas where many species can be viewed and cross-country riding to
seldom visited mountain areas. (West Yellowstone is the "Snowmobile
Capital of the World)

Skiiers also have great trips with the Rendevous Ski Trails starting
just 3 blocks from the townhouse and unlimited back-country areas
for cross-country skiing. Downhill ski areas are Big Sky (about 45-
50 miles north) and Targhee (about 90 miles south).
