activities and attractions in Yellowstone Montana

Sightseeing is one of the primary activities beginning with
Yellowstone National Park and its animals and other wildlife,
geysers and other thermal features, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone,
and so much more. Other attractions include Grizzly and Wolf
Discovery Center, I-Max theatre, Museum of the Yellowstone, and Playmill
theatre all within 7 blocks. Further afield, visit nightly rodeo grounds (5 miles away),
Hebgen Lake and Dam, Road to the Clouds on Sawtell Mountain, feed
the trout at Big Springs and visit the Johnny Sack Cabin, check out
the Centennial Valley and Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge,
tour the Gravelley Mountain Range on the interpretive auto route,
stop and explore Virginia City (the historic territorial capital of
Montana) with its gold mining artifacts, playhouse theatre, and
museum. A little further away, but still an easy day trip are Lewis
and Clark Caverns, Big Sky Ski Resort with gondola ride, Jackson
Hole and Grand Teton Park, and the St. Anthony sand dunes.

Trout fishing is possibly better here than anywhere else in the
USA. Many streams and rivers in Yellowstone are open and outside
the park you can choose from the Madison River, Hebgen Lake, Henrys
Lake and Henrys Fork of the Snake, Gallatin River, Elk Lake, Cliff
Lake, Wade Lake and hundreds of small streams and ponds. Truly Blue
Ribbon fishing!

Fall brings a change of colors in the quaking aspens, and hunting
outside the park in Montana and Idaho for elk, deer, bear, moose,
mountain goat, bighorn sheep, antelope, mountain grouse, ducks,
geese, and more.

Winter covers the landscape with deep snows and snowmobiling and
skiing take the forefront. There are over 600 miles of groomed and
marked snowmobile trails to ride right from the townhouse parking
lot. The trails access Yellowstone Park (Sleds must stay on groomed
regular park roads and do not harm the animals, thermal features or
other features of the park), and also the vast national forests
outside the park. There is powder riding on thousands of square
acres, many vertical walls for dedicated hillclimbers, animal safari
areas where many species can be viewed and cross-country riding to
seldom visited mountain areas. (West Yellowstone is the "Snowmobile
Capital of the World)

Skiiers also have great trips with the Rendevous Ski Trails starting
just 2 blocks from the townhouse and unlimited back-country areas
for cross-country skiing. Downhill ski areas are Big Sky (about
57 miles north) and Targhee (about 127 miles south).

Cheap, Large, but Rough around the edges

Review submitted: June 18, 2014   Date of arrival: June 14, 2014

This place was quite large and could sleep a ton of people, but for my family of three it didn’t meet our expectations.
Pros: great price, convenient location, could sleep an army, well stocked kitchen, had a high chair and pack and play
Cons: stairs did not have banisters (we have a 16 month old so this was quite difficult), there was dog hair on most of the furniture and rugs, the upstairs and downstairs had a distinct strong smell- the middle level was fine
This would be ideal for a large family looking to do Yellowstone on the cheaper side who would be willing to make some concessions or for a group of college students who just need a place to crash. For our family, we will pay a little more next time for a place that better suits our needs.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet-friendly

Owners response: We have allowed pets occasionally in the past. We never had problems with them except for some hair a time or two. We purchased a vacuum cleaner a few months ago which had a pet hair remover as an attachment. The week prior to this review the renters had the only dog in the building this season. Our caretaker reported that she used the attachment and worked for 2 hours removing the hair. It did not work well and due to time restraints with renters due in, she couldn't complete the cleaning. We have now instituted a no pets policy for all future rentals so this problem will never arise again.

The stairs going up and down from the middle level have handrails to comply with building codes. Part of the openings are partially open to allow for moving furniture, mattresses, etc up and down as any more closure would prohibit any such movements. All of the similar condos in town are built the same way and there is no reasonable way to change them.

We are traveling from our home in Minnesota to the condo in West Yellowstone in two days to determine where the odor came from. We intend to find the source and eliminate it.

This is the first time we have received any complaints about the pet hair, stairway configuration or odor problems. We are proud to offer a clean, well equipped, well located comfortable vacation rental and will strive to maintain high standards.

Great Location and Home...

Review submitted: June 14, 2012   Date of arrival: June 3, 2012

Our first time to West Yellowstone.. And the care taker and Marty made this trip amazing and trouble free. The townhouse is in quiet location and close to all of the towns shops and food locations. Just a few minutes from the West gate to park entrance. We were a party of 9 and had plenty of room. Full size kitchen well stocked supplies.. pots, pan etc. Only down side.. We needed more time!!! And yes we will be returning to Marty's place. We picked up supplies and food in Idaho Falls.. We drove in from California. Once again Thank you Marty and Kris.

Convenient in town rental!

Review submitted: May 28, 2012   Date of arrival: May 18, 2012

Lots of room to accommodate our party of 8 + 1 toddler. The two full baths are 2nd floor and basement. Upstairs is a double and a double + twin. In the basement, is twin + bunk bed twins and two more twins separated by a wall (but open doorway).

Keep in mind a cabin outdoor getaway feel and not a big city luxury rental and you'll be in the right frame of mind to enjoy this, West Yellowstone, and what the area has to offer. Large parking area in front of home off-street.

Did not use all the kitchen gadgets the house had to offer, but it was certainly well stocked in terms of spices and other cooking basics.

The house is situated on the edge of the Gallatin National Forest. Two blocks away is the Rendevous Ski Trail depending on the season - you'll be able to conveniently cross-country ski, mountain bike, or hike. West Yellowstone is small enough that you can walk to most locations and it's just off of Madison which is a major street that cuts east-west through town.

The west entrance to Yellowstone is just outside town, so it's a convenient homebase to explore Old Faithful, Canyon Village, and Mammoth Hot Springs with less than an hour of driving. (allowing more for traffic and wildlife and your desire to stop and enjoy the sights)

Owner had a portable crib and high chair available for our toddler's use and was very helpful with questions we had in preparation of our visit.
