vacation rental description

The historically accurate fence and house colours make this one of the most photographed in Niagara on the Lake. Marrakech Mansion was built around 1880 the interior like the exterior enjoys many of the historical features of the time. We have added a Moroccan flavour with imported lighting, artwork and colour.

Location: The house is located 1/2 block from the river, 1 block from shopping and restaurants in the heart of the old town.

The garden: You will love the large garden with antique roses, perennial flowers and large grassed area. The garden has in-ground sprinklers so it always looks its best

Eating outside: A patio with afternoon shade and a private garden that enjoys afternoon sun. A Moroccan table & chairs are located in both areas. The gas barbecue is on the sunny side of the house.

Inside: The main floor has a large living room, dining room and study as well as kitchen. The house has the original pine floors throughout with hand knotted Moroccan and Persian rugs

Bedrooms: The four bedrooms are upstairs so you have the whole main floor for entertaining.

through the wine region and past several of the area's 50+ wineries
all of which will welcome you in for a tasting.

The Shaw festival is at the heart of any Niagara on the Lake visit

The oldest Golf Course in North America is just around the corner.
You can walk and carry your clubs to the course.

The war of 1812 between the British and the USA was fought right on
this ground and pottery shards are everywhere from the great fire of

have forgiven them!) Walk or bike the flat streets and enjoy the
history.

Cancelation Policiy:

It is not uncommon for people to book their summer vacation in November or December for the next summer. It takes planning to get 3-4 couples or extended families organized for a group holiday. People seldom book a house at the last minute. This makes it very hard for me to fill vacancies caused by cancellations. Unlike a hotel or B&B, who have multiple rooms to rent, it is all or nothing with a cottage rental. Therefore I require lots of notice of cancellation.
The policy is:

  • Advise cancellation 60 days in advance I return all but 10% of your deposit.
  • Advise between 30 and 60 days of check in and I will return 50% of your deposit
  • Advise 30 days or less before check in, after the final payment has been made there is no guarantee of refund

First annual family vacation

Review submitted: August 3, 2014   Date of arrival: July 30, 2014

Beautiful home with every amenity we could possible think of. The bedrooms had beautiful bedding. Towels were great too!

Lots of homey touches; pictures and books and wallhangings. The bedrooms had lovely furniture. Just a great place.

The home was in pristine condition and had a helpful binder of info on the kitchen table, which we utilized more than once.

Would recommend this home and the owner/operator to anyone. He was prompt to respond to any inquiries we had prior to the trip and everything was just as he said.

Recommended for: families with young children, sight seeing, tourists without a car

Owners response: This is our vacation home too so we decorate with things we enjoy. Many of the framed photos in the library are of my ancestors, my father on the camel in Egypt during WW2, my Grandfather and Great Grandfather in the photo with the safe. The books are mostly those my wife has read, the sailing and war history mine. My cleaning people are proud of the work they do and love ths houses as much as I do. Thank your for your vote of confidence, I hope to see you again.

Family reunion

Review submitted: July 16, 2014   Date of arrival: July 10, 2014

Marrakech Mansion was all that was described and pictured, and more! The setting was quiet, but less than a five minute walk to the centre of town. The lovely historical home was charming, colourful and cozy, but roomy and equipped with all the amenities. It slept eight people easily, and the beds were really comfortable! The interior was spotlessly clean, with fresh linens and towels, and smallish, but very functional kitchen. The perennial gardens are a sanctuary, and there were so many comfortable spots, inside and out, to gather: the sitting rooms and dining room; front porch; back and side patios; and the lawns. The house has a central air system, as well as a large window unit on the landing of the second floor. We only used the air one of the three nights; it did not cool the bedrooms on the second floor as well as it did the rest of the house.

Don, the owner, was accommodating and helpful. He allowed us to drop our gear off early on the day we checked in. He let us know ahead of time that he would be coming to mow the lawn and put out the garbage the morning after our arrival. As soon as he heard that the toaster was out of order, he went out to replace it.

We did not explore the area too much, as we wanted to tuck in with family under one roof, but there are myriad activities in the area- kayaking, paddleboarding, biking and hiking, vineyard tours and wine-tasting, to name a few. A few of us visited the Falls early one morning, before the tour buses descended, and in the evenings, we walked down to the park on the river, right around the corner from the house. Some of us strolled the main street and window-shopped. There is a small grocery store in the centre of town, but for more selection, we went to St. Catharine's-about ten miles away. We found a fantastic bakery, Willlow, just outside town, and ordered one of the best cakes I've ever tasted! We had one dinner at Zee's, in downtown NOTL. It was fair, and the service was mediocre.

I would highly recommend the Marrakech Mansion for any group visiting the area, and hope to return there some day!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, tourists without a car

Owners response: You are right about the AC upstairs. The home was built in 1860 long before AC or insulation! There is a shortage of air returns upstairs that makes it difficult to cool. The best way to keep upstairs reasonably cool is to keep the AC on all of the time with drapes, closed and doors open. The close proximity to the lake negates the need for AC a lot of the time as you discovered. Open all of the screened windows and enjoy the cool evening breeze off of the lake. Thank you for your review and I hope to see you again.

Marrakech Mansion stay at Niagara on the Lake

Review submitted: June 9, 2014   Date of arrival: May 29, 2014

We brought our family here for a vacation as many of them had not been to Canada or seen the Falls. We had a great time and Marrakech is by far one of the best places to stay at NOTL. It is in the heart of town and close to all the stores PLUS just one block from the lake and all the paths!
I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a great historic home to stay in. Great yard and house layout!

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: Niagara on the lake covers a huge area. It goes all the way out to the new Outlet Mall on the QEW highway. If you want to visit Niagara on the Lake it is important to try and book a rental in the Historic core of the town. Both of my houses (I own Casablanca Cottage as well) are in the core of the old town. The Mansion was built in about 1860, Casablanca is much younger being built in about 1925. Staying in either house allows you to walk to the restaurants, the theatre, grocery store and most shops in just a few minutes. They are both mine and I am proud to own them. I try to keep them in the condition that we keep our own home. Clean, neat and orderly. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and your family enjoyed visiting Canada.
