vacation rental description

This charming cottage is in the quiet village of Otter Creek on
Grover Ave., five miles south of Bar Harbor. The house has two
bedrooms: one with a pillow top queen sized bed, one with a full sized futon, plus a comfortable living/dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, and one bathroom. There is a small room at the end of the house that is perfect for writing or art making. A screened-in porch with two rocking chairs catches the morning sun. There is a two-car driveway and a cute front yard full of flowers.
Just down our dead-end road is the head of Otter Cove. The ocean is
a 10-minute walk right out the front door through Acadia National
Park. Continue on the Park Loop road to Otter Cliffs and Thunder
Hole. An easy walk up our road is a nice general store and a five-
star restaurant called The Burning Tree. A free bus circling the
island stops at the top of the road.
Quick drives are Bar Harbor, Seal Harbor (3 miles), Day Mountain (1
mile), the Jordan Pond House, mountain hikes, swim-able lakes and
numerous sites on Mount Desert. But leave hustle and bustle behind
when you come back. Our cottage is a peaceful haven.
There is a shed for storing bikes or kayaks. Please bring your own towels and
sheets. We supply blankets, pillows and dish towels. For more photos please email and I'll send a link to our personal Maine web page.

We Left Our Hearts in Otter Creek

TinnyPhilly (Philadelphia, PA)
Review submitted: April 12, 2012   Date of arrival: July 31, 2011

We've rented this property twice, and can't wait to get back again. The cottage is very quiet, clean, and well-kept, with a cozy bedroom and a great kitchen where we can make all of our meals. The owner is very responsive and has great suggestions for activities in the area. So far, just the two of us have stayed here, but the cottage could definitely accommodate four people comfortably. When we are not out-and-about we spend our days on the screened-in porch, reading, writing or just daydreaming.

The cottage is in Otter Creek and is perfectly situated for hiking in Acadia, driving / biking into Bar Harbor, or exploring Mt Desert Island and points East. Sometimes we drive into Bar Harbor, but the free shuttle that picks you up outside the general store is even easier. Easy walking to general store, Burning Tree (yum - make reservations in advance!), and even a very nice massage therapy practice (make reservations there, too). Star gazers from big cities will be amazed that you can walk out the front door at night and see the Milky Way!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: This reviewer makes a good point - the house works for active types and restful types alike. And yes, the Burning Tree Restaurant is a must!

Charming indeed!

Sylvatica (Wakefield, MA)
Review submitted: June 7, 2011   Date of arrival: May 28, 2011

We stayed here for a wonderful week. The house was very charming and comfortably large for a couple who likes to leave games and art projects set up around the house, and still be able to cook. We cooked most of our meals in the very nice kitchen - everything necessary was there. The location pretty much can't be beat - far enough outside Bar Harbor to avoid the crowds, but only about 8 minutes in if you need to go to the Hannaford, grab coffee, or get breakfast (recommendation: Jeannie's). No breathtaking views out the windows, but we liked waking up to the mountain peeking through the trees.

With the futon in the second room, this house would be appropriate for a couple with a kid, two couples who are comfortable sharing fairly close quarters, or two single folks. We were there as just a couple, and it was perfect for a weeklong getaway.

Cheryl was a joy to chat with on the phone, and everything was exactly as she said it would be. I would highly recommend this house to a friend, and may stay there again the next time we're in the area!

Recommended for: sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: This lovely review confirms that others see what I've always thought I saw!
