My friends and I rented the place for a hardcore fishing trip. I am familiar with the area as my father lives there, but we had no problems. The boat, which we ran daily ran decent, we had to drain the fuel filers a few times, but if your renting a boat with twins and a 27 footer no big deal and you should know how to do these things!!!. Obvioulsy in 100 degree weather condensation will produce water so the gas will be a bit rough. Once we burnt the first full tank of gas it was okay, yes the boat eats the gas but shes a big girl pushing a lot of water and we knew that was going to happen. We went all over the place, boat worked great. Jet ski worked great, sounded like turbo was winding up a little bit but overall the house, boat and jet ski for the price is very reasonable. Expect to pay some money for gas if you want the luxury of a boat, the tank holds about $500, we lugged our own gas and you can save a lot of money doing it that way. There is a gas station up the road... Anyways I had a good ecperience, we didnt have to have the house maid clean, just the way it came, and we scrubbed the boat down and cleaned her up the way it came, no extra charges. I hope that I can rent again yearly as we loved it. Thanks Jorge and sorry that soo many phone calls came your direction.

Boater/Renter beware

KM4517 (Clarkston, MI)
Review submitted: May 18, 2011   Date of arrival: April 17, 2011

We were told on the night we got there someone would show up to do a walk thru w/us for the boat, since the boat deposit was so high, I wanted a walk thru to make sure we didn't pay for previous damage. No one showed up or called us. We were also told "if" we rented the boat then the jet ski would be thrown in for free. There was no jet ski! My husband a licensed captain couldn't get the boat started, finally someone showed up/the owners brother and explained this boat always had starting problems, the engine dies out mid water, which it did on us, the gas meter doesn't work! Scary. The owner when questioned was flippant, he blamed my husband, a licensed captain saying he didn't know how to run the boat correctly?! He told us the jet ski could have been brought to us, but the rental office told us it was in the shop when we got there & asked for it. We put gas in the boat since the engines die out & the gas meter is broken you are never sure if you need gas, we put gas in the boat and we were still charged over $400 for gas by the rental company after we left. Point is, things happen, we don't expect perfection but the owner told us he should charge us extra for a service call for his brother showing up to get the boat running?! He would not cut us a price break for the broken boat/missing jet ski rental & in my opinion that is EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. PS, you are also expected to clean this home as well as a maid upon leaving & will be given a list or you will be charged another fee. There were other issues, but I can only write so much. The owner doesnt seem to care if you leave happy or not, or if he has repeat business.

Owners response: The Boat is a large 27-foot Sailfish Grady White Fishing Boat, It is not for novice users, it is a large boat and you should have not only navigational experience and expertise, but should be familiar with how to work and run the engine, trim tabs, etc. The instructions for the boat and its use are in written form and are precise and clear. The Boat has no mechanical problems what so ever. It has two new twin 4-Stroke 225 Johnson Outboard Engines that run so silently that you can't even tell they are running, and they are serviced according to Johnson and we have and keep concise service records. The problems they encountered were operational. If you are running the boat at top speeds and you stand up and lean forward against the keys, you will shut the engines off, it happens. Also, you have to have the boat on neutral in order to start it; these are only things that a Licensed Captain should know. We send a person out there because the licensed captain could not figure out how to start the engines, and the service person started them right away. “AND NO, THEY DID NOT CHARGE ANYTHING FOR THE SERVICE CALL!” The Jet Ski is available and its use for FREE upon request, and it was never requested. The Boat is also equipped with two fuel tanks, and the lever to the correct fuel tank has to be in correlation and correspond to the gage switch that is on at the time. The problems were operational and these people were upset because they ran a $400 fuel tab and therefore wanted a discount. They used the boat for a whole seven days and were out on the boat the whole time they were there, so the fuel consumption is not abnormal. However, if you run the boat at full throttle and at full speeds everywhere you go, you will use up the fuel twice as fast as if you ran the boat according to the instructions (once you go on plain, you are suppose to throttle back to 3000 RPM's). You do not have to clean the home, nor the boat, there is a maid that comes in after you check out and cleans and it is all part of the price. The only thing we ask is that you leave the place in the same organized manner that you found it in. These people were never charged anything extra! We always have repeat business and are usually booked in advanced by the same people year after year during the high season, and we have been doing this for three and a half years. Our occupancy rate is 98%, and everyone has been very happy. Problems do occur, but not very often.

Affordable, but has issues!

A/C went out for 2 full days, slow response to repair, no apology or price adjustment. Very poor instructions come with house and boat, which greatly affected enjoyment of both. Property maintained in fair condition and could use a little work. Potentially nice vacation home, but only if key issues are addressed.

Owners response: The A/C was repaired immediatly, and it wasn't a problem with the A/C - it was that it was left at 60% and it had frozen. We don't really have any instructions that come with the House, we never thought we needed any. We do have extensive instructions that come with the Boat - and on the day after check-in, someone stops by to make sure the people using the boat understand everything. One thing is certain, this boat is not for novice users, it is a large deep-v boat and it requires extensive boating experiance.

The ground and property are very well maintained and we have been renting it for over three years and never had a complaint about the maintenance before. Someone is always available and on call (24-hrs) if there are any questions on the House, the Boat or the Jet Ski and the use of any of the equipment.
