This is the original Smugglers Cove cabin built in circa 1930, and lovingly restored to include all the luxuries of home in a truly unmatched romantic setting. If charm and proximity to the water are what you are looking for, it won’t get better than this! Walk out your door to a pathway through the dune grass and stick your toes in the powder sand beach as eagles soar overhead and waves lap lazily along the shore. A short walk south down the beach takes you to South Whidbey State Park, offering miles of hiking trails through old growth forests, or walk north to Smugglers Lagoon and watch heron, otter and an amazing array of shorebirds nesting amongst the driftwood. Get out on the water in one of our kayaks or take out the row boat and explore the waters of Smugglers Cove. Play a game of croquet on the lawn by the rose garden or try your skill at horseshoes on the beach. If you have children, this beach is a perfect place for sandcastles, fort building and discovering the abundance of wildlife that Puget Sound has to offer. Last but not least, this beach is known as the premier spot on the Island to shore fish for salmon! Cast your line 30 feet from your back door for salmon, steelhead and cutthroat. If you are looking for shopping and great restaurants, we are conveniently located between the charming towns of Langley and Coupeville. There are also three golf courses just a short drive away. This is Whidbey at its best! A short walk down the driveway from the parking area will bring you to a garden pathway that leads to the front door of the cabin. Open the huge wood door and gaze out the windows in front of you to the incredible western panoramic view. Gleaming log and knotty pine walls and wide plank oak floors surround you. Enter the living room with its oriental carpets and towering original beach rock fireplace and you will immediately want to cuddle up in front of a warm fire, especially during the winter, and watch the storms roll in. The cabin features a fully equipped kitchen with all the amenities, a large solid cherry dining table, comfortable furniture, wi-fi, a 46 inch high definition satellite TV, and a huge selection of DVDs. Enjoy our great sound system by plugging in your I Pod or enjoy our diverse collection of CDs. Also included are all your favorite games, Pictionary, Risk, Monopoly and many others. If you forgot your book, enjoy a classic from our library. The bright and airy master bedroom features a king bed with luxurious 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, goose down comforter and plenty of closet and dresser space. A French door leads directly out to the deck and hot tub, and windows provide for a beautiful view. The guest room has a queen bed, also with Egyptian cotton sheets and goose down comforter, a large closet, and great views of Puget Sound. There are also two twin size folding floor mats for two additional people. Down the hall from both bedrooms is a double sink bathroom that can be divided into two spaces to provide privacy for more than one person at a time. Hickory cabinets, and colorful tile give the room a wonderful beach cabin feel and two heaters will keep you warm even in the coldest months. There is also a washer and dryer for your convenience. The cabin is nestled amongst huge firs, nootka rose and charming cottage gardens. The grounds offer several sitting areas to take in the amazing westerly views. From the waterside deck, sitting at the teak outdoor dining table, you can enjoy dinner while watching the awesome sunsets over the Olympic Mountains. Look for whales and dolphins heading down Adrimiralty Inlet toward Hood Canal, or gaze across to Marrowstone Island and north toward the San Juan Islands as the cruise ships and tugs pass by. From the garden patio enjoy a cup of morning coffee as the sun filters through the evergreens and the hummingbirds and butterflies visit their favorite garden plants. Enjoy an evening cocktail in the rockers near the dune grass and watch the salmon jump just off shore. In the afternoon throw out the beach chairs, and dig your feet into the warm sand after a vigorous day of hiking, kayaking, golfing or biking and relax with a good book. If your muscles need soothing, jump in the huge hot tub while listening to your favorite tunes on the outdoor speakers and enjoy the spectacular view. Summer at the cabin is of course wonderful, with long summer days that seem to go on forever and lots of activities to keep you busy, but winter is equally special in its own way. Crackling fires and lazy days provide the perfect environment for reading, writing or spending time with that special someone. You will experience true solitude and invigorating beach walks along deserted lonely beaches. This is a unique and special place that is certain to capture you with its charm. It truly defines the northwest beach experience The Place at Smugglers Cove is located in a small enclave of just three other waterfront homes.
