The natural setting is a gem for this completely equipped private bed and breakfast
guest cottage at the end of Skyline Drive in Salt Creek Canyon at the foot of Case
Mountain. Fitting snugly into the hillside, the 484 square foot cottage was designed and
built in 1985 as a special home for Elsah's Grandma. It has been operating as a popular
bed and breakfast cottage since the summer of 1986 (do a google search for Cort Cottage
to read more details, to read other guest's comments, including an almanac updated
seasonally by the host.) Grandma's favorite color of blue is found in the dishes, carpets,
linens and furniture. A panoramic half-circle window frames the Sierra Nevada Foothills
and meadow outside, and provides a magnificent view of the star-studded night sky and
the full moon rising from behind the mountains across the canyon. The cottage underwent
a fun and creative rennovation in the winter of 2006, reinventing the bathroom with new
tile and fixtures. The cottage has new carpet and paint, so Grandma's blue has receded
just a bit. The outside deck is made from the circular bottom of a large redwood wine vat.
A shade umbrella and table with chairs provide an outdoor living space, scented by an
herb and native plant garden, with a view up to Giant Forest and Moro Rock, along with
Salt Creek Canyon and seasonal waterfall on Case Mountain. Located four miles from the
main entrance to Sequoia National Park, one mile off of HWY 198 at the end of the road.
Directions are mailed to you when you make your reservation.
Breakfast food is provided which includes homemade muffins and breads, fresh fruit, hot
or cold cereal, juice and eggs for you to prepare in the fully equipped kitchen. Flat screen
TV, with service from satellite, and DVD/CD player with docking for iPod are found in the
living room. The cottage has a telephone for local call use, calling card needed for long
distance and local number needed from your ISP for internet connection (note only cell
phones from Cingular/ATT have service in the Three Rivers' area.) Iron and ironing board,
assorted games and a distinguished reading library have been gathered for your
convenience and inspiration. There is a queen-size bed, with down comforter in the
bedroom area and a fold down futon couch in the living room which opens to a full-size
bed. A floor futon is availabe for smaller children. Extra bed linens, pillows and blankets
are found in a cedar chest in the bedroom. The bathroom has a tiled step down shower
which also doubles as a sit down bath tub. A new hot tub is located outside directly under the Milky Way, mostly used
during the colder months.
Visiting Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park for hiking, skiing, or just sitting with your
back supported by some of the largest living organisms on the planet is why most people
come first to Cort Cottage. It is also a favorite place for a restful, intimate honeymoon,
with many couples coming back for anniversaries. Others who return may come just to
stay at home in the cottage and slow down and think less and smile a bit more than usual.
Nearby hiking and mountain biking allowed on the BLM land at Case Mountain, just past
the cottage driveway located at the end of Skyline Drive. Ask Elsah about special
swimming holes open to the public on the Kaweah River during the summer. The cottage
has extensive information about day hikes up in Sequoia and Kings Canyon.
Visit Three Rivers on March 29-30, 2008 for the 8th biennial Three Rivers Artists' Studio
Tour, or come in May for the Redbud Arts and Crafts Festival, or in April for the annual
Jazz Affair or the Lion's Roping.
Actually, one of best times to come to Three Rivers is from January through April to see
the greening of spring and the progressive wildflower bloom. Spring flowers arrive in
Sequoia Park during June and July. River swimming is best in July and August, remember
to ask Elsah about special swimming holes to find. In the Fall the dogwoods up in Giant
Forest paint their leaves with red and pink hues, and the winter brings soft snow hugging
the big trees and making for serene cross country skiing treks.
Elsah is an RN, working as a part time home health nurse, who also practices both
craniosacral therapy and feng shui consulting. She describes these healing practices as
two sides of the same coin. Craniosacral therapy works with the inner aspects and feng
shui with the outer aspects of our being and lives. The 12th century poet, Rumi, tells us to
"work as much in the invisible world as you do in the visible." Both craniosacral therapy
and feng shui interface with the invisible world and can offer profound manifestations in
the visible world.
Elsah is also a continuing education provider for the California Board of Registered
Nursing. She offers integrative medicine workshops, based on mind-body-spirit concepts
and hands-on techniques found in craniosacral therapy and other integrative medicine
principles and practices. The workshops are designed for nurses but are also open to
massage therapists, psychotherapists, other healing practitioners and interested persons.
Continuing nursing education hours are available to licensed RN's and LVN's in California
and Nevada. A special retreat intensive is offered at the cottage for nurses who have
experienced "nursing burnout" in their work.
Craniosacral Therapy session for ninety minutes--$65
The cranial session is like a relaxing massage from the inside out, using light touch and
sensitive focus on cranial wave movement and deep stillpoints. It is not limited to working
with the cranial bones, but rather the whole body, including the sacrum, heart, and limbs,
as directed by the cranial wave itself. This work transcends the physical layers into the
depth and wisdom of emotion and spirit, expanding consciousness, promoting relaxation,
and inviting health. Please wear comfortable clothing and no perfume or cologne. Please
inquire about scheduling a cranial session when you make your reservation, if possible.
Feng Shui Consultations--$150 ($300 with site visit)
Consultations are best made with a personal visit to the space/site, which is often not
feasible for Cottage guests. However, you can bring photos and floor plan layouts (best to
draw floor plans yourself and not use architectural drawings or blueprints) of your home
or office and receive a two-hour person-to-person feng shui consultation. Ask Elsah about
scheduling an introductory workshop in your own home. All site visits and home
workshops are for local areas only, with special considerations and additional cost for
other areas in California.
$145 per night for 2 persons, $10 for each additional person (plus 10% bed tax)
$125 per night for 2 persons for stays of more than 4 nights
Two night minimum, with three night minimum for holiday weekends, four night minimum
for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
