OK place, beware of management company.

The apartment is OK. Great location, and if you don't plan to stay in for your trip, this is perfect. An OK place to crash. It's very small though, and you have to walk 4 flights of stairs since it's on last floor. On the plus side, it's a cool neighborhood, only a block from central park & museum of natural history/planetarium.

I was just there the weekend 2/15-17 (President's Day) , on a trip with 2 other friends. The apartment is true to the photos, so we knew what to expect, It's not 5 stars, but an OK place, a cool hood, and great price.

My beef is with the management company. When we got there, there was no toilet paper, no paper towels, no sponges/kitchen towels, NO TV SIGNAL, and one bedroom had no window pane to close, so it had to be left open when we had single digit temps both nights! The contract stated that all of this would be provided. We had 4 sheets left on the paper towel roll, and half used toilet paper roll in bathroom. No soap, no kitchen towels, no TV service. Again, all of this was on the contract!

So we call the day we check in to let them know that there's no TV signal. We're told they will put an order, and that someone with come fix it the next day. We leave the apartment the next day, fully expecting to have a functioning TV upon our return. That was not to be the case, when we call to inquire, all we get from them is laughs, mocking, and basically a "suck it up" attitude. TV was never fixed, hey! They got their money upfront, why bother, right? And when we mentioned the bit about the window, they laughed even harder.

Of course, the next morning I did get an email reminder that i was supposed to check out before 11am or I would be charged $500 extra. When I called to check out, and expressed my displeasure, there was never an offer to make amends.

My suggestion? Stay away from this management company New York Guest Services. They are extremely unprofessional and basically don't know what they are doing. I feel sorry for the property owners, because they are missing out. You'll do much better working directly with owner, or another company, but stay clear of these people.

Nightmarish stay

My wife found this place on HomeAway and we figured it looked ok on the site. As soon as we walked into the apartment, we realized that we made a big mistake by reserving this accommodation. First, the apartment is utterly dirty and my wife's white socks turned black after walking for mere ten minutes on the floors. I also found a dirty sock after the kitchen table shortly after our move-in.

The in-window air conditioners create giant holes in the windows that allow for very cold breeze in the apartment. This is especially problematic for us as our child is only 8 months old, as I have mentioned to the booking agent at the time of reservation. As a result, our son slept in our twin size bed, and my wife and I weren't able to sleep at all that night...

The heating system is also a disaster. You can either turn the age-old radiators on, and be fried (temperature went up above 80 degrees), or turn it off, and freeze at night. We had our nanny navigate the temperature throughout the night, who complained of waking up several times at night to fix the temperature in the apartment.

The beds are beyond anything I've slept on since my college days. The mattresses are awful, beds are really small (you may fit 5 skinny kids on these beds and a couch, certainly not adults), and the linens have piss stains on them! I have taken pictures, but unfortunately can't submit them via this review feature.

The list goes on and on, and I can say with confidence that as an avid traveler, I've never come across such a poor accommodation. The next morning, we hastily checked out and contacted the agency that has the listing regarding the mess. They suggested a different place to us, but said we’d need to drive to their office to get the keys. NY’s traffic is pretty bad, but we finally got the keys and then drove to the apartment that was offered to us, only to find out that it was occupied by current tenants for another 4 days!! We literally walked in and saw two guys sitting on a couch. At that point, my wife suggested that she doesn’t trust this company anymore and that we either “head home now or get a hotel”. Deciding against taking any more chances with this agency, I booked a hotel last minute. To make matters worse, the agency only agreed to refund 50% of our full payment for 6 nights of stay, despite the horrific stay we had for 1 night and all the stress they’ve put us through. Stay away from this apartment and the company that runs it!
