LOCATION
Kaweah Cottage is located off the beaten path, at the end of a rustic road along the South Fork of the Kaweah River, a short distance from Three Rivers, California. Less than 4 hours from LA and 4.5 hours from SF, we are near a remote corner of Sequoia National Park in the western foothills of the Central Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The Cottage is perched on a tranquil hillside offering views of adjacent horse pastures, Blue Ridge and pristine Grouse Creek. Located amidst blue oak woodlands, the Cottage is at 1,925 feet elevation and has year-round access. Cross canyon views of nearby Sierra peaks include Mt. Dennison (8,650 feet elevation), Case Mountain (6,818 ft.), Grouse Peak (5,317 ft.), and Horn
Mountain (4,450 ft.)
KAWEAH COTTAGE IS GREEN BUILT
Built in 2006, it's a new home on an old homestead. Kaweah Cottage is sited along east-west axis and planned for future passive and PV solar energy generation. Massive walls and dual pane glazing for maximum energy efficiency; cooled by down canyon breezes and ceiling fans; heated by sunlight or propane. Insulated with non-toxic recycled cotton.
Walls finished with natural clay and pigments. No interior paints or stains. Most of the woods used in construction are non-endangered and sustainably harvested. Low or No VOC oils were used for all wood finishes. All new Energy Star appliances, propane gas convection oven, and tankless heater used for hot water. Appropriate perishables are
composted. Majority of construction debris was salvaged for recycling. Built by all local craftsman. Elegant design and floor plan with 969 square feet inside and a 533 square foot wraparound view deck constructed of plantation grown machiche wood and connected to both bedrooms.
