As you approach this property, you know a special Santa Barbara experience is about to begin. This  
fine home is a California Hacienda; boasting large rooms and cathedral ceilings. It is set amid  
beautiful, mature, exotic and fragrant gardens. It also features a lighted tennis court, swimming  
pool, and spa. Just 3 blocks from the beach, you will breathe clean and clear Pacific air, and will  
relax in moderate temperatures year round. 
 
The setting is quiet, peaceful and very private.  Behind the gates of this oasis, you are in a  
different world; your own peaceful sanctuary. The property is located within a palm tree grove, and  
is surrounded by Avocado and Coral trees. It enjoys complete privacy with a 6 foot high stucco wall,  
gates, and tall hedges and trees. The landscape was carefully designed for our guests to enjoy the  
most exotic and colorful array of succulents and tropical flowers; evoking the sense that you are  
living in a Botanical Garden. 
 
Constructed by the renowned local architect Michael Carmichael as his own personal residence, the  
design is charming, comfortable and inviting. The 4,000 square foot home is on one level, and  
located centrally on 1.2 acres. It features tile roofs, stucco walls, tile floors, large verandas  
with daybeds, Brazilian wedding hammocks, an outdoor fireplace, and several dining areas.  
 
During the day, relax in the heated aquamarine pool and spa. Enjoy walking through the fragrant  
gardens. Join friends for a spirited game of tennis, or take shots on the basketball hoop.   
 
The living room is lovely; with the front and back French doors open, a gentle breeze adds to the  
airy feeling of the house. With its 13 foot pitched beam ceiling and no two walls parallel, the  
acoustics of this room are outstanding.   Enjoy your favorite music in warmth and openness. This  
room quickly converts to a large open area great for yoga, dance, or game area. The built-in wet bar  
makes entertaining easy. French doors open into verandas and gardens. A large faux-stone fireplace  
warms the dining room also. A skylight provides natural daytime illumination. 
 
The gourmet kitchen is a chef's dream (and a private chef is available upon request). Twelve-foot  
cathedral ceilings and skylights create a feeling of total spaciousness. Granite counter tops have  
plenty of working space and twin sinks. Pull up a stool for great family times at the large center  
island. Enjoy breakfast at the large breakfast nook overlooking the gardens and crystalline pool.   
Appliances include Sub –Zero fridge and freezer, 2 Dacor broiler/ovens, Bosch dishwasher and ample  
cabinetry. French doors open up to an outdoor living area with fireplace. 
 
Being all on one level has many advantages. The California Hacienda style affords privacy to its  
occupants with bedrooms at each end of the house, or the master suite far away from an entertainment  
room or study. The master suite features a fireplace and private patio; another gateway to the  
aromatic gardens. All of the rooms have pitched beamed ceilings for an open and airy feeling  
throughout.  
 
The property is located walking distance to the famous Hendry’s beach (a local's favorite with a  
nice restaurant), the Douglas Family Preserve, and it is next door to the elite estates of Hope  
Ranch.
