This modern, yet traditional Greek villa sits on a hill overlooking
the Aegean sea and the nearby islands of Naxos, Ios, Amorgos,
Skinoussa, and Iraklia. Located halfway between the large villages
of Parikia and Naousa it has a quiet country setting with close
access to all of the tourist attractions. Marble floors, graceful
archways, white stucco walls with Aegean Blue trim immerse you in
the Greek Cycladic island ambiance. Mature gardens of palm, flowers
and fruit trees, bouganvillia covered stone walls and arches,
combined with the view from the veranda and terraces, join to form
the idyllic and serene setting that you are looking for on a Greek
island getaway.
house rental amenities
This two-bedroom self-catering villa, which can sleep 8 people, has
a modern kitchen with refrigerator and freezer, 4-burner stove and
oven, double sink, dishwasher and micro-wave. Automatic coffee-
maker, electric can opener, toaster, and a complete set of dishes,
silverware, and cooking utensils will meet all of your kitchen
needs. While not often needed, the villa has an air-
conditioning/heating system. On the terrace outside the main
entrance you will find a washing machine, and an outdoor barbecue on
which you can try your hand at your own souvlaki. The villa is
equipped with two bathrooms, one on each floor, both with showers. A
large master bedroom on the bottom floor is set up for two persons,
and with a Greek style sofa that converts to two twin beds, this
room can accommodate 4. The adjoining living room, with satellite TV
and entertainment center has another Greek style sofa, and can sleep
an additional 2 persons. A spiral staircase connects to the dining
room where 8-10 can comfortably dine at the table. Off of the
kitchen upstairs is a second bedroom with 2 single beds. This
bedroom opens up through double doors to the upstairs shaded
veranda, equipped with a large dining table, deck chairs and
loungers. The veranda provides a peaceful setting for watching the
sun emerge over nearby Naxos, absorbing moonrises that reflect off
the Aegean, and watching the fishing boats, sailboats and ferries as
they ply their paths between the islands.
Cleaning and linen change service is provided at the end of each
week’s stay, and if you care for more frequent service, this can be
arranged by you separately by contacting the caretakers, whose
telephone numbers are provided at the villa.
activities and attractions in Paros Greece
This villa is situated directly above Chrisi Akti, or Golden Beach,
the best beach on the island of Paros. This beach is also the place
to come for windsurfing. It has hosted Olympic and European
championship competitions. You can rent the needed equipment at the
Beach.
The villa is located about 2 kilometers north of the village of
Drios and 5 kilometers south of the villages of Marpissa and Piso
Livadi. All of these villages have grocery stores, shops, excellent
tavernas and friendly island people.
In the summer months, nightlife exists within these villages; in the
shoulder seasons the tourist nightlife is active in the main island
villages of Naousa and Parikia. From the villa it is about 18
kilometers to Naousa, and 26 kilometers to Parikia. Both of these
villages have the typical Cycladic island myriad of sinuous streets,
designed to confuse the attacking pirates in ancient times. Today
they make it nearly impossible for the tourists to retrace their
steps to the one of many artisan shops where it was planned to
purchase a vacation souvenir.
Paros is a major hub of inter-island traffic, which makes it the
ideal location from which to make day-trips to nearby islands. By
high-speed ferry it is a short journey to Mykinos, where a local
ferry will transport you to Delos, the birthplace of the Greek gods.
This is one of the best ancient historical sites in all of Greece,
with many ruins of the temples built for the gods, along with
remaining statues and intricate mosaic floors. Another trip by high-
speed ferry will take you to Santorini, one of the most often
visited of the Cycladic islands. With its impressive villages rising
along the steep cliffs of the now dormant volcano, it offers
spectacular views. The nearby island of Antiparos can be reached by
a 15 minute local ferry ride, and the trip there to the caves
located on the mountain top is worth it.
Hiking trails abound on the island of Paros, with many popular
trails leading to still functioning monasteries, and to the island’s
mountain tops, where a cool mist is often hiding the peaks.
Horseback riding tours can also be arranged.
For smaller children, a go-kart track is located between Parikia and
Naousa, as well as a water slide facility.
If sailing is your thing, a number of sail boats are available for
charter on the island of Paros. A large sailboat charter business is
operated out of nearby Syros. When chartering a sailboat in Greece
it is necessary to hold a Greek sailboat captain’s license.
Otherwise, you will have to engage a licensed pilot to accompany you
on your excursion. This is probably a good thing, as the waters of
the Cycladic islands are some of the most challenging in all the
world when the summer Meltemi winds are blowing. A Cycladic sailing
experience will allow you to better relate to the trials of Ulysses
during the Odyssey.
