The first and most obvious activity is sunning and swimming at the
beach. You may enjoy this so much that you will spend every day
working on your tan. However, if you want to experience more, the
Mayan Riviera has so much to offer.
Golfing is a popular pastime with vacationers and the area boasts
six championship courses (with more in the building and planning
stages) including the layout at Playacar which is a $5 cab ride from
Casa PDC.
If being in and under the water is your thing, the Yucatan coast is
world famous as a snorkeling and diving destination. Choose an
operator from among the many certified dive shops to take you out
for a day on the world’s second largest coral reef. A truly unique
Mayan experience is swimming in a Cenote. Cenotes are natural
sinkholes in the soft limestone that makes up the Yucatan peninsula
that have formed inland of the ocean and are filled with fresh
water.
Deep sea fishing charters are available to suit every budget. The
marina at Puerto Aventuras, fifteen minutes via cab south of Playa,
is the base for many charter operators who offer full and half day
trips year round. The species are plentiful from Dorado to Sailfish
and you are almost guaranteed some fine action.
The ruins at Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza will recall the days of
Mayan splendour. All are within reach of Casa PDC as a day trip. You
can either rent a car or go on an organized tour in an air-
conditioned bus. Local guides can be hired who will enhance your
experience with their vast knowledge of the historic Mayan culture.
Xcaret and Xel-ha are two of the impressive eco-parks to be found
along the Mayan coast. Both are built around natural lagoons where
you can snorkel, swim with dolphins and see colourful pavilions
featuring local flora and fauna.
