Fall can be the best time to take a hike in the North Cascades.
Generally clear September and October weather, gorgeous fall color,
and plentiful mountain blueberries all combine to make this an
incredible time to visit us.
Winter activities must include a trip to Mt. Baker Ski Area. It is
open mid November to the last weekend in April (weather permitting).
In a good snow year, the town of Glacier can have snow on the ground
when the rest of the county doesn't. Due to its position in the
valley, Glacier is often protected from winter winds that can be
prevalent in the surrounding foothills. Sledding cross-country skiing,
and snowshoe trails are easily accessible.
Springtime skiing at Mt. Baker can be some of the best. Late storms
can bless us with awesome powder days, sunshine and warmer nights can
produce excellent "corn snow". This is a great time for backcountry
skiing (check avalanche conditions). Note: In order to access the back
country you must have a transceiver (and knowledge of how to use it),
a shovel and a friend along who has the same. Please call the
avalanche hot line before proceeding.
Summertime is great for rafting, kayaking and fishing, all in the
fabulous jade green water of the Nooksack River. The hiking trails
range from strenuous to easy. In late July you can drive to Artist
Point for incredible views and easy hikes around Table Mountain. Be
sure to stop at Nooksack Falls view area on your way up or down HWY.
542, (off of Wells Creek Road). Challenging mt. bike trails are
abundant around the town of Glacier. People who enjoy a strenuous bike
ride will love the challenge of riding Mt. Baker Hwy to the top at
Artist Point, approximately 25 miles.
$125.00 for two adults.
Each additional person is $10.00 per night.
Plus 8.4% sales tax.
(Sales tax will increase to 10.4% on 7/1/07.)
