We are offering this rambling 70 year hacienda style adobe,
recently remodeled and located in Ranchos de Taos, NM, which is just
south of Taos. It sits on a rim road with a view of the Taos Valley
below and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range in full view, hence
the name Vista Royale. This incredible site is made even more
spectacular when viewed through the giant picture window in the
mudfloored living room. Though only two bedrooms are listed, there
is a large southside sunroom with a futon bed. Beds can be provided
as needed. All common rooms are very spacious.
This is the former home of Ranchos painter Carlos Hall, who
oversaw many of the renovations. As a result, plenty of good light
abounds for artistic endevours. The interior walls are almost 2 feet
thick. Incredibly massive vigas loom throughout, as well as windows
at every turn. The entire southside wall is glass, which is great
for the passive solar gain. This captured heat is released from
the walls at night to help keep guests comfortable. Radian base
board heat is also utilized.
In our spacious livingroom we have an efficient woodstove with
a beautiful mosaic fire wall. It is a terrific room for entertaining
since it is adjoined by a large dining room, with the kitchen just
around the corner. The kitchen has a large tiled island that people
like to hang around as meals are being prepared.
The front yard is enclosed. This not only helps keep stray
critters out but keeps children and pets in. The front gate must be
at least 150 years old.
As a retreat for the artistic types such as writers and
painters, this house works well because of its quietness and
inspirational forms and views. Painting opportunities can be
provided upon request.
Skiers and other vacationers will enjoy the spaciousness which
nurtures the comaradrie of larger groups.
