Great Location Condo

Puerto Morelos sunseekers (Cranbrook, BC, Canada)
Review submitted: April 2, 2013   Date of arrival: March 10, 2013

Great Location Condo,

Not a good start but we did enjoy ourselves! We arrived late to the condo and were given the key by the security guard. There was a key in the bottom lock of the door, so we were confused as to how to open the door, plus it required a bit of finesse to open the top lock. Had to have the security guard help us out. The next day, the property manager said that it was jammed by a previous occupant, but was not fixed. I won't go into a long drawn out review, but provide some highlights and items that require some TLC and attention.

Highlights:
Small complex, so it was quiet and you get to know the other occupants. Well maintained pool, garden area - Thank you to a very hard working Gustav. Great view of the ocean. Loved listening to the waves! Comfortable condo - simply decorated My husband liked the terrace shower (that's the other 1/2 bathroom - up on the terrace). Good location to town - an easy walk) into town - 10 mins. Glad to have a washer and drier.

Require attention: Hot water - had to turn on the sink tap in order to get some hot water, but not consistent Need more lighting in both living room and bedroom for reading. Bathroom vanities need more than a 20 liter plastic water jug to keep the counter from falling down (do not move). There is a separation between the back splash and the counter top. Dead balcony plants need some TLC - not appealing to look at. Need new light bulbs for outside door way light fixtures. Microwave stopped working plus it needed some cleaning. Need more than one wine glass, more glasses in general Top terrace furniture cushions are ripped. Broken wooden chair not fixed. Need a tea kettle. Internet stopped working because the bill wasn't paid (that's what we were told).

Thank you Susan for answering my emails, phone calls and texts. We were satisfied with your condo. It met our needs. It is located in a very nice complex. I strongly encourage give your condo some TLC. Andre (property manager) did leave us a welcome package so we could have breakfast for the following morning. We appreciated this very much. Also for the fresh juice BUT........his absence (he was involved with another event) was felt by us and other units that he managed. The other property manager was always present and helpful.

The other vacationers in the complex were so friendly. One big happy family! We would recommend the complex. Loved Puerto Morelos and what it has to offer which are FANTASTIC!!!

Recommended for: girls getaway, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: Thank you for visiting the Palma Real and the lovely town of Puerto Morelos.
I am so happy you enjoyed your time at our condo and the beautiful beaches...
I appreciate your attention to detail and I will see that the little things are updated to improve your stay next time.

I assure you that I take pride in our home and want you to feel that it's your home too. Anytime you want to come and stay, please let me know and I'll make it worth your while. :)

Thank you and cheers!
Susan

Wonderful vacation

Joe Mexico (Marysville, Ohio, U.S.)
Review submitted: July 25, 2011   Date of arrival: July 2, 2011

We had a wonderful time in Puerto Morelos, and the condo was much better than expected. I traveled with my wife and two kids 7,18. The condo was spotless and very modern. The view was incredible from the balcony and the rooftop. I used the BBQ grill on the roof top to make some great dinners, lobster tails that you can buy at the dock from the local fisherman, fish and steak. Susan King was a great owner and answered all of my questions through e-mail and my phone calls. She was very informative letting me know about things my family could do while we were there. We were the only people at Palma Real for 4 days it was great having a resort like setting to yourself. There is also a person on staff 24-7. I could not believe there were any bad reviews and was a little apprehensive about renting this place, but we have traveled extensively and take some peoples reviews with a grain of salt. Yes, the hottub on the roof did not work, but I was told about this by Susan, and I would not have used it anyway it was 85 degrees that is not hottub weather for me. The Tv did work, and we did manage to watch 30 minutes of it in 9 days. I am on vacation I can watch tv at home. We rented a car and drove everywhere. Visited some local cenotes (cenote Azul is great), went to Xcaret, Tulum, and went four wheeling in the jungle. You get a much better price driving your self versus using a tour company. The four wheeling trip had 2 cenotes and a zip line we did this for only $125 total not a per person. Tulum only cost $3 per person vs. $100 a person through tour companies. The cenotes you can expect to pay $5 per person. You can walk into town in about 10 minutes, and no worries about safety this is a great little town. We spent many evenings in town ate dinner, then my daughter played on the play ground with mexican children her age and my son would find teenagers to talk to (usually girls). The town square is full of children and families after the sun goes down. There are alot of nice small restaurants that have really good food. Our favorites were Taco Avenue( tacos al pastor were incredible), and David Lau's( suprisingly very good chinese food and pizza). This was a much different experience than going to an all inclusive resort, and Puerto Morelos is not Cancun or Playa del Carmen, it is unspoiled and 100% non touristy(if that is a word). I can not wait until next year to go back.

Good condo/Bad owner

Review submitted: March 15, 2011   Date of arrival: January 29, 2011

The condo is overall very good, unfortunately our stay there was somewhat overshadowed by the owner's attitude. Beware of a high cleaning fee which is only mentioned once you have paid the deposit and signed the contract. The jacuzzi wasn't working (the care taker said it hadn't been working for a year) and there was no TV in the apartment (apparently being sent for repair) and neither of these problems had been mentioned. Puerto Morelos is a good place to stay, if you want to be near the airport and away from Cancun. The condos are very nice, but, considering the bad communication we experienced with the owner I would choose another apartment next time.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with teenagers, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: I can appreciate constructive feedback, but do not accept when people visit my home and state they were mis-informed or not given the opportunity to express their concerns with me or my Property Manager while visiting.
I realize, some people you can not please. Ironically, the people who visited for two weeks before from Canada, raved about the place, the expectations, etc., which is noted at the condo. We have attempted to fix the jacuzzi several times, which is "hit or miss" if the heating element will work. There is a new TV. Unfortunately, the humidy fried both flat screens, which I was just informed and reduced the rent for this. Of course that was not mentioned.
The Property Manger was even surprised by the tenants remarks and expectations and adding 2 additional people without notification.
Regardless, I split the cleaning fee with the tenant and hope they will be upfront with the next Owner they rent from.
Warm regards,
Susan
