vacation rental description

2013 marked the end of our 10-year project to convert an historic barn into a beautiful residence and small event center. We took our time to do it 'right'.

Carl Glenn Johnson built this barn in 1915 on his family's homestead. Until 1992, the barn was used in the family dairy business. On site you can still see the creamery with its foot- thick cement walls, a log cabin and numerous farm implements.

When we arrived in 1999 the barn was sagging a bit and leaning slightly, yet had a great feel about it. We put it up on a foundation and eventually decided to convert it into a 5-bedroom house with a wonderful hay loft. It took a long time to renovate, but now it is a place that many can enjoy.

Each bedroom has its own toilet/sink/shower and all bathrooms are ADA compliant. Each shower has grab bars and a granite seat. The large master shower has two shower heads!

The hay loft has an oak floor with two layers of soundproofing so that a basketball dribbled upstairs is hardly noticed downstairs.

The barn renovation includes a combination of original barn wood, warehouse wood, and just-milled, rough-sawn lumber. The baseboard throughout the barn is made of wood salvaged from the corrals that were on site. The bed frames and headboards are made with wood that was growing in the early 1800's.

From the antique decor to the handmade wood beds and the complete kitchen to the WiFi system, the barn is a pleasant combination of old and new. Throughout the barn you will notice the Hilton mattresses, pillows and sheets, the thick cotton towels, and a feeling of home. We have traveled a considerable amount in our lives. Now we want our guests to enjoy the little amenities that make a trip a pleasure and a place feel like home.

The barn is surrounded by 20 acres of pasture and trees that outline Hyalite Creek. From various spots on the property, you can see the seven mountain ranges that define the Gallatin Valley. Around the barn you will find a quarter-mile path that can be used for hiking, jogging, cross-country skiing or star watching.

Through the years we've had many craftsmen help us on this project. Almost to the last man they have said that there was something special about the barn and they enjoyed working on it. We believe that you too will feel the something special that this barn offers.

Historic Barn was AMAZING

Review submitted: July 24, 2014   Date of arrival: July 16, 2014

The Historic Barn was truly AMAZING. Kristi & Dean thought of everything to make your stay a wonderful experience. We had a family reunion of sorts with ages from 4 to 70+ and their was something for everyone to do. Weather it be relaxing with the garage up and a book, or shooting hoops! We hope to get back to the Barn someday!

Awesome family celebration at the 1915 Barn!

Review submitted: July 5, 2014   Date of arrival: June 14, 2014

Our family chose Bozeman, Montana, to meet for Grandma's 80th birthday celebration, with family arriving by air and car from Arizona, Colorado, and California. Bozeman was recommended by well traveled friends that bike, hike, fly fish, and look for places of beauty and adventure in wilderness areas. Some of us wanted the amenities of cool places to eat, shop, and an awesome house that would provide for the whole family. The 1915 Historic Barn looked just right for us; everything about our trip exceeded our expectations. It was awesome!

We loved the beautiful airport, our Suburban rental car was easy to pick up in the airport, and directions provided were so accurate and easy to follow. The barn is beautiful outside, located in most picturesque surroundings of pastoral countryside. The interior is exquisite, roomy, meticulously clean and appointed, with areas of relaxation and recreation all over inside and out. The pictures on line are beautiful, but it is even better in reality.

The owners are so kind and helpful, ready to assist when needed, but so very discreet. Four generations of our family were thrilled with our week at the 1915 Barn, we LOVED every last thing about our trip:Yellowstone, The Museum of the Rockies, Dave's Sushi Off Main, all the restaurants and stores on a most awesome Main Street, our beds, the basketball court in the loft, the pool table, the beauty, the weather, our walks in the country, so many World Cup Soccer games, precious time together with enough room for us all, and that wall that rolls up to frame a view to remember. We highly, highly recommend this vacation home and feel so lucky to have had such a terrific vacation at the 1915 Barn in Bozeman, Montana.

Spectacular home away from home!

Review submitted: July 4, 2014   Date of arrival: June 25, 2014

We had the pleasure of staying at The Barn while in town for a wedding in Bozeman. We found the accommodations for our group of 12 absolutely perfect. Kristi and Dean have appointed The Barn beautifully with everything one would need to feel right at home. HIgh quality appliances, furniture and accessories throughout, that one would not expect in a rental property. The Barn was perfectly clean upon arrival and because the property is so wonderful we felt happy to take great care with it. We spent lots of time downtown which was a quick 10 minute drive from the property yet the setting is quiet and the views fantastic. Not only would we recommend the property to anyone coming to Bozeman we will stay here again when we come to visit. Thank you Kristi & Dean for sharing your beautiful Barn with us. It was a trip we will never forget.
