Cudjoe Key has a population of only around 1700, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for a place to experience the Florida Keys in a less crowded, peaceful atmosphere. The Lower Keys, which includes Cudjoe, Big Pine Key and Key West, as well as several other small islands, begin where the Keys island chain turns gracefully to the west, shortly after the famous Seven Mile Bridge. Cudjoe is located between Key West and Big Pine Key, and is the site of the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge. The town of Cudjoe is quite charming, with a day spa, unique shops and home-style restaurants, beautiful sandy beaches, small resorts and family homes, all in an area rich in history and untamed wilderness. Bahia Honda State Park is nearby, and you can go back country fishing, or charter one for a day of sport fishing or diving the wrecks. Other outdoor recreational opportunities are endless and include canoeing, sailing, kayaking, hiking and biking, jet skiing and snorkeling. Spend some time exploring the other islands of the Lower Keys, too, including Key West, Little Torch Key and Big Coppitt Key. Nearby Big Pine Key is the shopping hub of the Lower Keys and home to the National Key Deer Refuge, and the jumping off point for snorkeling the spectacular Looe Key Reef. Whether you prefer the action of water sports, or the laid-back island lifestyle, Cudjoe Key offers plenty of both. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
