vacation rental description

Casita Montoya is a romantic, in-town cozy adobe. Enjoy a short walk
(just 2 blocks) to historic Taos Plaza, or ski nearby at world-class
Taos Ski Valley. The street it's on has 3 speed bumps, so there's very
little traffic. It’s the perfect place for romance and doesn’t cost an
arm and a leg.

If you're drawn to Taos, you're probably a skier (it's excellent at
nearby Taos Mountain) or you’re spiritual (our upstairs loft even has
a meditation bench) or you’re into health and fitness (yoga mat and
weights supplied and my friend will bring her massage table to soothe
your muscles after skiing. Just $70 for a one-hour massage.)

Wood floors and ceilings in both rooms add a special charm and the
hand-plastered walls in the bedroom are tinted a salmon color that
makes your skin look fantastic. Look up at the stars through the
skylight in the bedroom, but close the skylight shade if you want to
sleep late. The bedroom was just recently constructed and has a
King-size bed.

The tall cottonwood trees in the backyard keep the casita cool, but if
there’s a heat spell, just turn on the a/c. The backyard has a small
wrought-iron table with umbrella and 2 chairs and is completely fenced
in, but sorry, the enclosed hot tub in the backyard is for guests of
Casa Montoya, (property #28784) the larger property in front that
sleeps 2 to 4 people and features a large, fully-equipped kitchen, hot
tub, King bed, TiVo, DSL and wireless, and wood fireplace. This
casita has a kitchenette in the living room with 2-burner gas cooktop,
under-counter refrigerator, deep stainless steel sink with water
filter on the faucet, toaster-oven, electric kettle, microwave and
coffeemaker. If you don’t feel like cooking, there are excellent
restaurants within walking distance.

Bring your laptop (we have wireless internet) and your cell phone (we
don’t have a telephone). A gas stove in the living room has a
thermostat so you can be as toasty as you want. The bedroom has
baseboard electric heat. The bathroom is small (no tub) with Mexican
tiles and hand-painted sink, and a Saltillo floor. Enjoy the thick
L.L. Bean towels after your shower.

Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a
world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural
heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk
to from Casita Montoya. You'll love this place!

cottage rental amenities

Tall cottonwoods keep the casita cool, but there's also an air
conditioner in the bedroom. Enjoy satellite TV with HBO and Starz,
DVD and CD players, DVD library. King bed.

Kitchenette in the living room has 2-burner stovetop, under-counter
refrigerator, deep stainless steel sink with water filter on the
faucet, toaster-oven, electric kettle, microwave, blender,
coffeemaker, pots and pans and all kinds of utensils. Check before you
grocery shop since we provide teas, mayo, ketchup, salt, sugar, etc.

This casita is just 2 rooms plus small bath (shower, yes; tub, no) but
does have a curved stairway to a charming loft for meditation,
relaxing, enjoying private space, gazing out the window, looking down
on your partner preparing dinner (or looking down at your partner
looking up at you wondering when you're going to make dinner), storing
your luggage. You can't stand up in it (unless you're really, really
short) but there's a meditation bench and a table with short legs, a
rug and pillows for lounging. The yoga mat and weights are in the
bedroom closet downstairs, along with the iron and ironing board and
extra pillows.

They Said We'd Love It and We Really, Really Did!

nmwhitebird (Santa Fe, NM)
Review submitted: October 18, 2011   Date of arrival: October 14, 2011

We had three nights at Casita Montoya and were just enamoured.

The Casita is adorable and perfect for two people. It is warm and welcoming. The owner had thought of just everything to make our stay enjoyable. We would race around during the day, hiking, shopping and gallery hopping and then return to our quiet oasis. Evenings we would make ourselves presentable and head out again for more fun.

This is a great, great location and you can scoot out either end of the street, depending on where you are going, and beat the weekend traffic crunch.

Thanks so much!

Charming Casita...We Loved It!

Ann and Chuck (Cascade, Colorado)
Review submitted: September 28, 2011   Date of arrival: September 16, 2011

We loved this little casita tucked away on a residential street, close enough to walk to the plaza, decorated with love and charm. It was perfect for two! It had everything we needed and way more space than a hotel room or B&B room!!!! We felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood, and I took a walk by myself each morning. We will come back anytime we are in Taos!

Took one look and left.

We were scheduled to spend two nights in the Casita Montoya. However, after driving through the immediate neighborhood, we were not impressed. Then when we saw the place we were to stay, wedged in between two not-so-nice properties, we didn't feel like we were on vacation. We went inside, and my husband felt claustrophobic, it was so small. I will say it was very clean and nicely decorated, but unfortunately, that was not enought to get us to stay. It is too bad photos of the street and surroundings are not posted on the Internet - only those photos that show the subject property in its "best light".

Owners response: I'm sorry that the guest did not approve of our rental. How can I respond? Taos is not an upscale resort town for the wealthy. It is fun and energetic and funky - lots of
'artsy' charm. You have nice dwellings mixed with funky dwellings everywhere - that's the charm of Taos!
Our other guest reviews say it all - our guests love Casita Montoya and many come back regularly. The price of the Casita justifies the size (our rates are extremely reasonable especially for being so close to the Plaza) - a medium sized bedroom and a smaller living & dining area, a meditation loft and of course a bathroom. And there is a nice backyard. I'm sorry this guest did not feel our place was upscale enough, but I am reassured to know that the majority of our guests love our Casita and come back. Warm Regards to the guest who wrote this review. Winton
