Vacation Rental Description

This mid-century modern beach house features three bedrooms and three baths  
and was completely renovated in 2006 and 2007.  The home was built for a  
single schoolteacher in 1959 and occupied by her until 2005.  She lovingly  
planted and nurtured many trees and plants that survive to this day giving it  
a tropical feel and privacy.  We have also added a succulent and cactus  
garden. 
 
The architect’s plan included three completely new baths, custom fixtures, a  
new euro style stainless steel kitchen, new a/c, plumbing, patio and lanai  
with an out door shower. 
 
In keeping with the era of the home, many vintage mid-century modern  
materials and accessories were utilized.  One highlight is the original  
terrazzo floor, which was polished and restored.   
 
The furnishings include mid-century modern classics from Herman Miller,  
Howard Miller, Paul McCobb, Eames, Noguchi, Heyward Wakefield and Danish  
Modern.  The art collection encompasses pieces by Indiana, Trova, Bill,  
originals by current artists, as well as found art objects.  Mid-century  
light fixtures and fans were refurbished and used in keeping with the homes  
vintage as were recycled vintage glass block for accent walls.  We even  
retained a couple of jelosied windows and period aluminum clad doors that  
were built with the home. 
 
Overall, the renovation is an unfussy blend of tasteful mid-century modern  
and 21st century, using quality materials such as marble, slate, limestone,  
stainless steel, cedar and fiberglass sheet. 
 
The kitchen, living room, dining room, sunroom and patio flow together  
providing a relaxed indoor/outdoor great room.  A new limestone patio  
provides a nice spot for alfresco dining under the banyan tree. 
 
The home is approximately 125 yards from a deeded private beach that is  
approximately 5 miles long.  The powdered sand is pristine, white coral and  
is a lovely stretch to stroll or watch tropical sunsets.   
 
The location at the north end of the island consists of single-family homes  
and two story condos.  The result is low people density on the beach and  
road.  Quite often you can walk the beach for 1-2 hours and only pass a few  
people.  As one Florida native said, “this is old Florida.”  Beer Can Island,  
at the north end of Longboat Key, is a nice place to walk, and see dolphins,  
ospreys, heron and an occasional manatee. 
 
Within two miles are markets, restaurants, post office, banks and the towns  
Durante Park.  You can stay on the island with a bicycle.

Longboat Key 
 
Longboat Key is within a few miles of Sarasota but feels like another  
country.  Commercial development has been controlled through careful  
planning, so signage, strip malls and roadside attractions have been  
restricted.  Year round population is 8,000 and peaks at 22,000. 
 
The island’s proximity to Sarasota provides cultural attractions, shopping  
and dining.  If required, Sarasota also has the highly rated Sarasota General  
Hospital. 
 
Recreation: 
 
Longboat Key has a large wide concrete walk way for most of its 12-mile  
length for walking, jogging, roller blading or slow bike riding.  Bike lanes  
on Gulf of Mexico Drive connect to keys north and south to accommodate more  
ambitious cycling.

stainless steel outdoor gas grill, vintage patio chairs, new washer and

Security deposit of $500.00.  Returned after inspection of property. 
Cleaning fee $250.00 – Cleaning of home after departure. 
Rates in U.S. dollars to be paid in advance.  Bank wire, cashiers or  
treasurer’s check only. 
 
50% due at signing of rental agreement. 
Balance due 30 days prior to rental date. 
 
Cancellation: 
 
100% refund – 31 days notice or more prior to rental date 
50% refund – 15 days notice to rental date 
No refund – 14 days or fewer priors to rental date
