Exquisitely built Art Deco Mediterranean 2- story pool home by famed
architect Lawrence Murray Dixon. Murray designed some of the most
popular and famous hotels in Miami Beach. These include The Victor
Hotel (1937), The Raleigh Hotel (1940), The Marlin (1939), The Tides
Hotel (1936), The Senator (1939), and The Ritz Plaza Hotel (1940),
to name a few. He was famous for his use of curved surfaces, which
are evident throughout this house (archways, elegantly curved
ceiling blending into the staircase).
Walking in to the soothing foyer, you step down into the perfectly
designed sunken living room with romantic fireplace and hand-laid
Italian tile. It took 3 men 2 months to complete just the fireplace
alone as each tile was carefully chosen for its aesthetic look and fit
(many were removed and replaced in the process in order to
eventually achieve just the right combination of uniqueness, style,
and glamour) and is a true work of art.
Sitting in the roomy living room and looking out the front, uniquely
styled curved windows, you feel like you are in a truly lush, exotic
location. You are surrounded by picturesque birds of paradise
plants, imported Hawaiian coconut trees; eat the coconuts that
fall to the ground when in season - the pure white meat is prized
by the locals who stop by every season asking for a few coconuts
to take home. And the coconut water that springs from the inside
of the delicate shell is a true connnoisseur's delight. Hopefully you
can come when the coconuts are deliciously ripe and ready for you
to enjoy.
The exquisite dining room with its hand-picked modern chandelier
lights up the imported Mexican tile and detail of the
custom-designed wall architecture.
The bold dining room then steps down to the masterfully designed
entertainment room. Lavishly surrounded by oversized windows
which oversee the dramatically designed and luxuriously private
pool area, refreshing water gushing from the mouth of a hand
crafted lion statue (see photos) is the first thing you notice when
gently stepping outside into the private canopy of the pool area.
The awe-inducing Lion Fountain sprouts delicious waterfalls on
each side of it that, if you close your eyes while letting the water
gently cascade onto your now-soothed head, and listen to the
sweetly chirping birds and tropical parrots that live in the towering
coconut trees at the head of the house, will convincingly make you
feel as if you are the only person on this secluded tropical oasis.
You will want to spend most of your time in this private pool area as
it is surrounded by 12 foot tall ficus trees and wooden fence to
assure your privacy. The secure and private design of the pool area
will really allow you to enjoy this spectacular oasis in Miami Beach
any way that you want.
Entering the custom designed kitchen from the outside pool area, you
are greeted by the one-of-a-kind, painstakingly hand-crafted tile
picture in the kitchen (see photo). As you are gently cooled by the
tropical paddle fans overhead, you can make your way up the
imported wooden steps, making note of the old-world designed
wrought iron handrail, to go upstairs and take a luxurious nap. It is
upstairs where you can overlook the tranquil pool area and enjoy the
comfort of the original, fully restored wood floors that baby your every
step.
