cottage rental amenities
Shopping is at the Price Shopper in Lee or Great Barrington (the
latter is better), but locally are the The Otis Egg Store,
Terranova's General Store (which has good meat and great ribs )and The Other Brother
Fish store. In East Otis, Hall's, with wonderful ice cream and an old fashioned soda fountain, and
Katie's, also with good meat and a takeout area for fried chicken, clams, etc. Papa's, also in East Otis, specializes in organic foods and has a local market on Saturday mornings. This is also the local service station. The local
bar/restaurant is the Knox Trail Inn with music on weekends in East Otis. Two places serve breakfast
and lunch, one in East Otis and one in Otis and one restaurant by the Otis Ski area, the Grouse
House, serves dinner.
Don't expect too much of anything being open in the Berkshires after
10:00 unless you go to Railroad Street in Great Barrington or the
Knox Trail Inn. This is not the land of dance clubs!
activities and attractions in Otis Berkshires MA
Big Pond is very free of people mid-week but, of course, on weekends
families congregate for water skiing, etc.
The area is culturally rich.
Big Pond is very close to Jacob's Pillow (10 minutes)
minutes; It's accessible to other cultural highlights: 30 minutes to
Great Barrington (cineplex and restaurants)and Stockbridge
(Berkshire Playhouse), Lee (outlet mall and Joe's
dinner). Allow more time for Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Company,
and at least 1 hour or more for Williamstown Playhouse, Clark Museum
and MOCA in North Adams. That is a day's jaunt. The Appalachian
trail cuts between routes 23 and 8. The Monument Mountain hike is
near Great Barrington. Lots of other events are listed in Berkshire
Week, a Thursday supplement of the Berkshire Eagle which can be
picked up in Terranova's.
