Vacation Rental Description

      Our simple summer home is located in the village of Sorrento.
The Sorrento peninsula juts out into Frenchman Bay, just about half way between the two 
partsof Acadia National Park: Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Point. The village consists 
ofa small post office, a boat yard, and a beautiful protected harbor. The islands at the 
harbormouth frame views of the mountains on Mt. Desert.
       The house is one block from the harbor. It is a wonderful area for walking, kayaking 
and exploring the rocky shore. Good hiking and beautiful freshwater lakes for swimming 
are a short drive away. The two parts of Acadia National Park are each about 30 minutes 
away. 

Vacation Rental Amenities

      The house is fully furnished and equipped. It sleeps 4-7 in 5 bedrooms. Originally 
built as a duplex, the two front doors lead into a four room first floor, with an eat-in 
kitchen, living/dining room, music room and an extra room, great for spreading out 
jigsaw puzzles and other projects.  There is a washer/dryer in thekitchen and a tiny 
bathroom (toilet only) tucked under one staircase.
      Upstairs are 5 bedrooms and a large bathroom. The bathroom has a claw foot tub with 
a shower attachment.  One of the larger bedrooms has a queen bed, the other has two 
twins.  The three smaller bedrooms each have a single bed.  
      The house comes with a canoe and dinghy. All bed linens andtowels are provided. The 
kitchen includes a microwave, coffee pot, and lobster pot (no dishwasher).  The house is 
stocked with games, books, puzzles and local information. High speed internet access is 
available at the Sorrento Public Library just up the hill. Sorry, no pets or smoking.

Activities and Attractions

     Sorrento has a wonderful harbor, quiet roads for walking and excellent access to the 
rocky shoreline. The canoe or dinghy can be rowed out to one of the harbor islands on 
calm days to explore the small sandy beach, look for beach glass, hop
on the shoreline rocks and watch eagles and osprey swoop past.  Sorrento is surrounded
by excellent water for kayaking. 
     Within Sorrento there are tennis courts, golf, a salt-water pooland children's activities, 
including sailing, available for a fee through the Village ImprovementAssociation.
     Slightly inland are the protected forests surrounding Donnell and Flanders ponds for 
hiking and freshwater swimming. 

Vacation Rental Rates

Spring and Fall 2008  $700/week
Summer, June 28-August 30, 2008  $800/week
Plus a 7% lodging tax.
