vacation rental description

South Austin Serenity House sits overlooking the 7th Fairway of the Onion Creek Golf Course (private), located in gorgeous and serene Onion Creek. This fully furnished two-story 3200 sq ft home was completely repainted and recently updated with new travertine floors, new carpet throughout, and a completely remodeled kitchen: new refrigerator, new range, new dual ovens, new dishwasher, and new microwave; as well as a blender and a 12 cup coffeemaker. Wonderful home, great neighborhood, with great neighbors, and the neighborhood association employs a 24/7 patrolling private security firm. Thanks in advance for being respectful of our neighbors and property.  Onion Creek is one of Austin’s southernmost neighborhoods conveniently located right off of I-35, a major north/south highway extending from Mexico to Kansas. While quiet and peaceful, the Onion Creek neighborhood enjoys easy access to I-35 either traveling north to downtown Austin and the Capitol or the University of Texas Campus (approximately 7 miles) or also south to San Marcos, New
Braunfels, Gruene, (30-45 minutes) and to San Antonio Texas (about 60 miles). Cabela’s, my husband’s favorite store, is about 4 miles south. Traveling west, to charming and historic Fredericksburg through Dripping Springs and Johnson City, is a beautiful drive on HWY 290 West, about 1.5 hours.
If wanting to soak up the serenity and relax, enjoy your morning coffee sitting on the covered downstairs back porch looking over the 58 x 20 foot deck, and just below, where in the early mornings deer graze, squirrels play, and bird calls greet the day. In the evenings the back deck is a great place to enjoy a glass or two of wine and unwind. Downstairs the large den (huge floor to ceiling windows on the golf course) contains new leather furniture, a Flat Screen 42 inch HD TV, and is adjoined by the breakfast area, the kitchen, a formal dining room that seats 14+, and the formal living area with a fire place.  Upstairs (centrally heated and cooled by an individual upstairs unit) 4 bedrooms, three of them with private doors onto the upper 58 feet of porch, are spacious with large closets for storage. The upstairs has two full baths, one with a large walk-in shower, and the only facility downstairs is a half bath.

house rental amenities

A serene feel and the great location are the main amenities, with easy access to all major highways (inbound/outbound – North, South, East and West), (10-12 minutes to Austin Bergstrom Intl Airport), (approximately 10 miles to Barton Springs), and (approximately 12 miles to the University of Texas, central Austin campus). Add a gracious, serene, and beautiful home in a safe and manicured
neighborhood, and you have the main ingredients for a wonderful visit to Austin or central Texas and the Texas Hill Country.
Planning a Family Reunion or attending a local wedding, why not all get together in the same home?
Attending Graduate School, waiting to take possession of a new home construction, reporting for a new job, attending graduation ceremonies at one of the many Universities, quarter everyone here; or put off your re-location decision here, until you find what you’re looking for.
Several locations and homes within the neighborhood have been used for filming scenes (2007) for episodes of the TV series “Friday Night Lights”, and for filming some of the scenes for the upcoming Julia Roberts movie “Fireflies in the Garden”.
Large two car garage with automatic garage door opener, driveway parking for at least 3 additional vehicles; 4 bedrooms, bonus room fits 2 additional full size blow up mattresses (available if needed). Dishes, utensils, coffee maker, pots and pans are provided; also provided: pillows, towels, linens, soaps; inside laundry room with new washer, dryer, iron and ironing board. Home is connected to the Time Warner Cable network with 200+ channels on the 42” HD Flat Screen.

Christmas at Serenity House

Ann (Fairfax, Virginia)
Review submitted: January 4, 2011   Date of arrival: December 22, 2010

This property is just a 10 minute walk from my mother's house, which made it so convenient for our visit. We were already familiar with the area, and it was a joy waking up each morning and being able to walk out onto the large deck and enjoy the quiet peace of the golf course. There was ample sleeping space in the 4+ bedrooms for the 7-8 of us that stayed there, plenty of towels, and the convenience of a washer & dryer, but it was the large living areas that were so attractive to us. We hosted our family Christmas dinner there, and there was plenty of room for the 20 of us that sat down for dinner. We loved having the double ovens for cooking, and the owners provide plenty of cooking and dining gear for a group. With a living room and a den, as well as the kitchen & dining room, there was a place for the large group to gather as a whole, and plenty of places for more private conversations. Kathy and George were a pleasure to work with, & even went so far as to decorate the house since we were using it for a family Christmas gathering. The home's decor was comfortable and interesting, so I really did feel like I was at home. I would absolutely recommend this property, but you need to bear in mind that it is away from hustle and bustle of downtown Austin. However, there is easy access to I-35. We enjoyed it because it was exactly where we wanted to be (in Onion Creek), and I will definitely look into renting it again.

Not A Good Time

SoiledSewer (Arizona)
Review submitted: November 28, 2010   Date of arrival: October 6, 2010

Our family, from Arizona, needed a place to stay in Austin because a chronically ill family member was in the hospital and had been admitted into the ICU. We typically plan Austin trips weeks in advance because we have toddlers, but this was an emergency visit. The female owner of the house couldn't have been nicer when I first spoke with her and finalized the trip details
*Wednesday: arrived at the Serenity House & completely baby-proofed the house
*Friday evening:downstairs toilet completely backed up and sprayed sewage (poop/pee/toilet paper/dirt)like a fountain all throughout the downstairs bathroom, hallway and into the living room. My husband immediately turned off the water to the toilet and we grabbed every towel in visible sight to clean up the mess. Water infiltrated the areas stated above about 1"-2" in depth. We were basically walking, barefooted, in sewage, trying to clean up the owners' house so the baseboards did not become saturated with sewage, and so the living room furniture and throw rugs were not ruined.
*After an hour+ to clean up the 'sewage spill', my husband and I got ready to leave to get something to eat. I think one of us used the UPSTAIRS bathroom before leaving, and the same DOWNSTAIRS bathroom erupted again after the upstairs bathroom was flushed. Keeep in mind, the water was turned off at the downstairs toilet. So, here we went again with the clean up. We used EVERY SINGLE towel, sheet, rug, blanket, hand-towel, etc...to clean up the mess the second time. In total, we spent about 2.5 hours cleaning up this disgusting mess.
*Husband calls the owner (woman). He tells her everything that happened. She says this has never happened before, she's been all over the world and never heard of a toilet doing what hers did, etc...My husband concurred. He is a real estate investor, owns many rental properties, and had never seen anything like this either.
*Owner said she would call a plumber and get the situation checked out. In the meantime, we could not turn on any water at all because my husband's theory was that something was going on with the outside sewar line b/c even though the water was turned off to the downstairs toilet, it still gushed if other toilets were flushed, when faucets were turned on, or the laundry machine was running. So, we had to leave the house with sewage still on our hands, arms, feet and legs until we could find a place to clean off.
