We arrived a little early in the season in 2012. We got lucky and had great weather the whole week. We had a couple of hot days and rented a boat and tube from parrots landing. The owners recommended them and I agree. They delivered to the lake the cottage is on, Upper Silver Lake. They were at the launch right on time and picked the boat up right on time. They fully refunded our security deposit and treated us well. Tubing on the lake was great since my kids are teenage boys.
You can take the boat right up to the cottage's dock when you need a break, that was really great. I would recommend only renting for 1/2 day though as Upper Silver Lake is a no-wake lake until 11 am each day.
Everything in the area is very close (10 min.), including all of the dune stuff. There are 2 go-cart places, bumper cars, a great put-put golf course, a light house on lake Michigan with a huge beach and all of the dune activities.
However, this cottage is far enough away to avoid the public. The road you go down has an old dead end sign and nothing indicating an entire community is there. Very quiet with a lot of retirees.
We took our little dog which was great. The dog run lines were cool and it was a completely shaded area. The little private beach area is shallow enough for little kids and my kids could go out further and still have some fun. There is a picnic table by the beach and lots of plastic chairs on the huge new deck. There is one of those metal fire pits that sits on the little beach area and they had wood there. If you need more wood everyone in the area seems to sell it by the road.
The cottage itself was clean and nice. Wifi worked well and they have some kind of direct TV with a basic channel package. The TV is bigger than the one in the current pictures. The futon easily converts into a bed. There were six of us and we all had a place to sleep (though nobody wanted the small pullout bed because it is small). The deck is huge and has table and lots of plastic chairs and a small gas grill. The kitchen has all appliances and they are not old. They have dishes and tons of utensils and lots of pots and pans. Everything you need and more.
The owners are friendly, organized and very responsive. My security deposit was mailed back before I could request it. They leave great instructions on everything, like the wifi password. We were very happy and thought the place was better than the pictures and description. A++
