Mixed feelings

Review submitted: May 31, 2011   Date of arrival: May 16, 2011

This property should not be described as "ocean front"! It is on the back side of the building, away from the ocean. There is one small window, and a small balcony that have a view of the ocean through the gap between the two buildings (shown in the pictures), but that is it. The condo was nice at one time but a number of things don't work very well, or at all at this time. The glass door to the balcony, for example, was very difficult to close. There is a dehumidifier but we had to turn it off because it made so much noise. The lockbox for the key didn’t work so upon arrival we had to contact the landlord to find out how to get in. There is only a single key for the door so we had to juggle it between the people staying there when we went out (or leave it under the matt where we found it).

The condo is well located. We were within easy walking distance of a number of restaurants and attractions. Other than the misleading description and the things that didn’t work well, it was an enjoyable week.

Owners response: I am so sorry Mike was disappointed with his visit. We believe we are very honest and clear about the location of the condo. The building IS directly ON the beach, and our balcony is on the side of the building, as shown in the photo, and stated in the description. It is a lovely view of the ocean from the couch in the living room and from the balcony, and the breeze between the two buildings is just great the way it whips through there.
I did contact Mike to find out what things were not working well. Besides the sliding door (which is, admittedly, very heavy being a hurricane-certified door), he mentioned the internet and the guest toilet. We responded immediately with changes and have now added spraying the track with WD40 to the regular cleaning list, as well as keeping a can there for guests' use if it gets sluggish. We also replaced the guest toilet entirely, even though it just needed a new flapper, just because we thought a new one would be nicer. I still haven't figured out the problem with the internet. I haven't had any other complaints about it. We use AT&T high-speed internet with a router. All access codes are printed on the router, so I am not sure what else we can do to improve that, but welcome ideas.
As for the lockbox, it was actually working at the time, but when the cleaner had trouble getting in the day before Mike's visit, we asked him to leave the key under the mat just that one time to be safe until the handyman could get over there and check the box. We have since added a new lock box as well, so that problem is solved.
I wish I had been able to resolve these issues while Mike was still there to enjoy the condo, because that is always my goal if there is a problem, but sadly, I didn't find out about these issues until this review was submitted. I hope Mike will come back and enjoy the improvements his suggestions rendered, and I hope you'll come give us a try too.
We aren't the most expensive place on the beach, but we will try the hardest to take care of you and make sure you have a positive experience. I promise you won't find a more honest or caring home owner. This truly is our personal sanctuary that we just try to share with others to help us with our expenses on it, and we hope they feel as at home there as we do.

We had a wonderful time at this condo. Within a couple of days, the place felt like home. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach, the pool was great, and the condo was a perfect fit for four of us. If we plan another Florida vacation, we will certainly try to stay at this place again.

We recently visited Jacksonville Beach from Cleveland to attend the Browns/Jaguars game. The condo is within 30 minutes of the stadium. But even better, it's on the ocean. We loved the dunes, the pier, the soft, white sand, and the sound of it at night. The condo is cute, very clean, and the perfect size for 6. We were able to walk everywhere except to the game. It's very close to some fun bars and good restaurants. Also, very close to Publix, which came in handy for our tailgating needs. I would definitely recommend this condo. I hope I have a reason to go back to Jacksonville someday!
