Vacation Rental Description

"Maybe the most beautiful home in San Miguel."  This wonderful,
contemporary colonial home is prominently included in an upcoming
publication by Rizzoli books featuring contemporary
colonial homes in Mexico with photographs by Ricardo Vidargas. The
home sits on an acre of land and its unique location, sharing a border
with the famous 10,000 acre Botanical Garden, provides unobstructed
views of the Garden, its lake and seasonal waterfall, the town below,
the Picacho mountains to the East and the Guanajuato mountains to the
west.  Morning, noon and early evening the light is constantly
shifting and the views are wonderful.  The sunsets are famously
dramatic beyond the reservoir and the mountains behind, and the night
time skies are striking with the lights of the town twinkling below.

The home features thick adobe walls, an entrance graced by water
coursing down a channel cut into wide, external stone steps, a flooded
patio with fish and water plants, an enormous antique Hacienda door
rescued from a ruin, several water features including ponds and
fountains.  A Jacuzzi and swimming pool set off an architecually
designed back yard.

The kitchen is modern and efficient and beautiful in design.  The
living room, with carpeted stone floors that extend through the patio
to the edge of the pool and Jacuzzi, is quietly elegant and
comfortable and not formal in feel.  The library with an overlooking
loft above is a perfect place to read or watch television or a rented
movie. There is dish T.V., and in every room there is WIFI and/or
internet connection.  There is purified soft water through out,
in-floor heating, a wood burning fireplace in the living room with
stacks of wood outside the door and gas burning fire places in every
other room save the kitchen.

Inside there is a master bedroom with a king size bed and two guest
rooms in the guest wing with queen sized beds;  each has its own
bathroom.  Each bedroom is unique, comfortable, and well designed.
Polished concrete bathrooms give a Moroccan atmosphere to the guest
rooms and the master bathroom is beautiful and comfortable.  The views
from the terraces off the master bedroom, or for that matter, from the
king size bed itself, provide a breathtaking view of the Botanical
Garden, its lake and seasonal waterfall, the mountains beyond.  The
shifting, high desert light makes the view continually interesting and
dramatic.

There is a full time housekeeper who is an excellent cook and a full
time gardener who cares for the grounds.  Both are excellent resources
for visiting guests.

The home is a 20 minute walk, down cobbled streets through Balcones,
to the Jardin or town center.  It is a 30 minute walk back up the
hill; or a 5 minute, 25 peso taxi ride.  There is a feeling of being
far away from the sounds of cars and buses on the surface streets or
trucks inching down the Caracol with their air brakes:  the house is
profoundly tranquil and serene with a nearly continuous gentle,
background sound of this fountain or that waterfall.  In the morning
and evening there is the sight of low flying birds overhead in their
daily migration between the lake in the Botanical Garden and the
reservoir below the town.  Although the home is serene and
comfortable and feels far from it all, one also feels close to the
center of
town.

well appointed with comfortable cotton sheets, duvets and down
comforters.  

Local Phone, Free Vonage phone line to and from the US, Dish T.V.,
CD/DVD Player, DSL internet, full kitchen with commercial stove, oven,
refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, food
processor, cooking utensils provided, dishes, linens provided, washer
and dryer, purified water throughout.  

Activities and Attractions

San Miguel de Allende, is one of the most charming and unique colonial
towns in Mexico. It is known for its cobbled streets, 16th and 17th
century architecture, pastel colors, old churches and rich artistic
and cultural life. It is on many lists, including that of Conde Nast,
as one of the world's desirable places to retire.  San Miguel is one
of those places were you can walk pretty much everywhere exploring its
cobbled streets or sitting in the main square, the Jardin.  

There are a multitude of other activities available to visitors in San
Miguel including, visiting the many art galleries, taking art
instruction courses, horseback riding, hiking, hot air ballooning,
visiting nearby hot springs, tennis, golf, shopping, restaurants,
cinemas, live theater and music events.
