vacation rental description

Welcome to Lush Life, a luxurious, newly constructed beachfront compound located directly on the pristine, pink-sand French Leave Beach. Lush Life was the setting for the 2010 Tyler Perry/Janet Jackson film, ''Why Did I Get Married Too'', which was shot on location in the house and on its beach, pool, and grounds. Lush Life has a total of four structures with 10 bedrooms, 12 baths, 5 kitchens, beautifully landscaped grounds, and a large heated pool. Maid service three days a week is included. Other staff are available upon request.

Although completely private, Lush Life is just a five-minute walk down the beach from the Beach House restaurant. It is less than a mile from Tippy's famous restaurant, and a mile from the town of Governors Harbour.

The houses at Lush Life were exquisitely designed, and built to the most exacting standards of workmanship. They feature Brazilian hardwood floors, cypress cedar ceilings, custom tile, electronic mini-split air-conditioning systems, and decor by one of the Bahamas' premier interior designers.

Lush Life is rented to just one group at a time. The compound consists of the following structures:

The Main House: This magnificent Bahamian Colonial mansion has 4 king bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, and sleeps 8. The large great room, hall, formal dining room, and expansive veranda look directly out upon French Leave Beach, one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. The extraordinary kitchen would satisfy any master chef, and is designed to handle the largest dinner parties. It is equipped with two large refrigerators, giant freezer, gas range, and more.

The Guest Cottage: This 2-bedroom cottage overlooks the pool and has ocean views. It has a full kitchen and 3 baths, and is connected to the Bunk Room and Studio Apartment.

The Bunk Room: This structure, connected to the Guest Cottage on one side and the Studio Apartment on the other, consists of a large bedroom and private bathroom. The bedroom is furnished with 3 bunk beds and 3 trundle beds, sleeping up to 9 children.

The Studio Apartment: This cozy cottage with views across the pool at the beach and ocean, is linked to the Bunk Room. It has a large living/bedroom area with a four-poster bed, a kitchen, and a private bathroom.

The Pool Cabana: This bright one-bedroom house is on the beach and beside the pool. It has a king bedroom, a large living room, and a full kitchen and bath.

The Gardener’s Cottage: This charming cottage is a studio with a queen bed, mini-kitchen, and full bath. There is an extra charge of $500/week for use of the Gardener's Cottage, which is generally only used for large groups requiring a 10th bedroom.

Lush Life comes with everything you need to enjoy your stay on Eleuthera including flat-screen satellite TVs with DVD players, high-speed internet with WIFI, desktop computer, free VOIP telephone line, books, and games. Outdoor amenities include a heated pool, gas grill, kayak, surfboards, and (coming soon) an outdoor ping pong table. Lush Life comes with housekeeping 3 times a week. A cook and other staff are available for an additional charge.

Lush Life is located directly on French Leave Beach, an idyllic, mile-long, pink-sand beach with only half a dozen houses on its entire length. The surf is very mild, protected by a large reef system that parallels the shore. The water is among the clearest in the world. Just offshore from Lush Life is an excellent reef for snorkeling, inhabited by many colorful reef fishes.

The town of Governors Harbour, a mile away, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreigners. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing, is not to be missed.

Does it Get Any Better?

Review submitted: February 5, 2014   Date of arrival: December 4, 2013

I brought a group of friends and family to Lush Life in December for a birthday celebration. It was our first trip to Eleuthera. The Bahamas is a rather long way from Los Angeles, but it was worth the long travel time.

Lush Life exceeded our expectations. It was truly spectacular. The house is gorgeous. It is beautifully decorated and well kept up. They had just refinished the floors. The kitchen is fully stocked and has everything you would need, even spices, sugar, paper towels, soap. foil, etc. even an open liquor cabinet. I brought a cooler of meat for the bbq, but FYI the BBQ didn't heat very hot so it took a very long time to grill anything. The bedrooms are beautiful. The beds are a little on the hard side. (A foam mattress topper would be a great addition.) My friends who stayed in the cottages didn't like that there are no screens on the windows, but the main house has screens. My father was glad there was a TV room with cable and DVD player.

The location couldn't be better. French Leave Beach is really beautiful and quite secluded. We loved spending the day in the kayak and snorkeling. Unfortunately, whenever someone does visit the beach they seem to want to camp (and I mean camp with a truck full of stuff) right in front of the house. It would have been nice if they moved down just a bit.... the beach is a mile long.

We visited the Beach House and Tippys. Both were nice but very expensive. After eating out a couple of times, everyone was really glad I brought a suitcase of food and cooler of meat. We cooked most meals at the house. I hired Pauline to come a cater our first night dinner and they did a lovely job, good food, set a beautiful table with flowers and cleaned everything aftewards.

We had a fabulous week. I've rented homes in Moorea, Bora Bora, Tuscany, Positano, St. Lucia... This was one of our favorite places. The people of Eleuthera are lovely. We are very thankful to the owners for sharing their paradise with us. Matthew, the booking agent, was very helpful in the booking and giving information. My friends keep asking me when can we go back. The only problem was that nobody ever wanted to leave the house and grounds to explore the island. We'll definitely need to come back to see Eleuthera and we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Great Trip

Review submitted: December 5, 2013   Date of arrival: November 23, 2013

Family gathering. 26 total - 12 adults and 14 children age range 5 to 15. The Lush Life house was amazing. All the amenities needed. Plenty of space for everyone and the kids had so much fun. Matt Simon at Eleuthera Vacation Rentals was great to work with. Too many positives to explain in detail but the location is perfect. It is like having your own private beach. Snorkeling, surfing, playing on the beach and in the pool. The house and other buildings worked great for our large family. The only bad side was the weather but that was out of our control. The Beach House restaurant and Tippy's were great restaurants and a must when visiting the island. I would recommend the Lush Life House. A great way to celebrate a family gathering.
